Cuttting the tips of K-9's off

Recommended Posts

Over the years I seen many ferrets with the tipps of there canines cut off (all rescues), I guessing this is don't to stop the ferret latching onto a rabbit down the bury. Anyway our new ferret had the tipps of his cut off and me and my boyfriend where descussing it and wondered weather my thought was correct.

S does anyone know why it is done?

2 of my ferrets have half a k9...never sniped either of em...i can only presume they have broken whilst the ferrets have been chewing the mesh of their run...never affected their work or temprament...

you've cracked it. pointless though as well as cruel, i bought a ferret kit once at a fair, only when i got it home i realised her teeth were nipped. she failed as a worker, gave her to a rescue, i wondered after if she didnt hunt due to pain from teeth being nipped?

its a good idea to check animals over when you buy them

i did check it over it was in perfect health otherwise, docile little kit easy handled, didnt think to check the teeth in a ferret kit for some reason, i always check a dog or pup and other livestock

The old wives tale was that with snapped teeth they couldnt kill in. Same sort of folk who believe that not feeding them makes them work better and that handling them makes them soft. It also doesnt work in any way, my mate has a big old hob with well snapped canines and he kills right. left and centre. The only thing it achieves is to make it more miserable and irritable, as often they get tooth decay and infection.

Used to been done years ago, by a few especially in the west country remember my grandad telling me a few few years ago when i got my first one,s, there,s no need for it. there used to be few other methods as well to stop them killing down the hole as well like stiching there mouths closed and putting rings over the mouth to act as a muzzle. admittly this was 50-60 years ago when my grandad was a lad
