canis lupus 1
Over the years I seen many ferrets with the tipps of there canines cut off (all rescues), I guessing this is don't to stop the ferret latching onto a rabbit down the bury. Anyway our new ferret had the tipps of his cut off and me and my boyfriend where descussing it and wondered weather my thought was correct. S does anyone know why it is done? Quote Link to post

akton 15
dont see the point of it, besides being unnessesary and causing distress Is this another act by the so called RSPCA. isnt it supposed to be prevention of cruelty to animals Edited February 27, 2011 by akton Quote Link to post
kevin from bristol 95
i know a few that do this but for me i think if they come up against a rat or mink at least they can defend them selves some people even take there claws off so they cant scratch just crazy Quote Link to post

Ideation 8,217
The old wives tale was that with snapped teeth they couldnt kill in. Same sort of folk who believe that not feeding them makes them work better and that handling them makes them soft. It also doesnt work in any way, my mate has a big old hob with well snapped canines and he kills right. left and centre. The only thing it achieves is to make it more miserable and irritable, as often they get tooth decay and infection. 1 Quote Link to post
Rake aboot 4,936
This went out with the dark ages. Never seen it at all, never seen or heard of a recue centre doing it. Never met anyone who said they had seen it. Quote Link to post
longnetter 32
I don't believe even the ArsePCA would do this. Probably some dickhead some where who thinks it will stop the ferret killing down. Of course the other point is that it's against the law Quote Link to post
ferretracer 24
Used to been done years ago, by a few especially in the west country remember my grandad telling me a few few years ago when i got my first one,s, there,s no need for it. there used to be few other methods as well to stop them killing down the hole as well like stiching there mouths closed and putting rings over the mouth to act as a muzzle. admittly this was 50-60 years ago when my grandad was a lad Edited February 27, 2011 by ferretracer Quote Link to post
canis lupus 1
Thanks guys Its what I thought then, I don't realy see how it could stop them killing, I mean they still have teeth just short ones. Thought I better say the rescues I have seen like this came into the rescue with there teeth like it, my little lad was a stray. Quote Link to post
