What to do??

Recommended Posts

Hi all ...

Was out this afternoon for a quick hour with the ferts.

Basically, after a 15-20 min wait, i located her at 4 foot.

After a further 5 mins she was still in the same spot so i got the spade out.

I started digging and after about a foot i checked to see if she had moved, she had.

This happened about 3 times and in the end i got the hump and sat and waited for her to come out.

She had blood all over her face so she had obviously made a kill.

What do you do in this situation when the ferret appears to be dragging her kill away from the sound of you digging?

Thanks,

Andy.

she more then likely killed then moved on. if you kept digging i would of expected to find a dead bunny.

my guy kills instantly now, if theres no bolt in 5 mins i get the box out, if he dont move for 2 mins i dig. 4 out of 5 times theres a dead bunny. i had 3 holes dug at around 3 or 4ft apart the other day and removed a rabbit at each. well actually 2 rabbits at the first hole. he just went along the tunnel killing each one he came to. we got 23 rabbits but we only had 6 proper bolters all day. the rest were digs and removed from the hole as the ferret tryed to drag them back down.

once a ferret gets the nack of how to kill it only takes a few seconds once its at the right end of the body!

i swear theres bunnys down the holes we dont know about which are killed by the ferret but he moves on so quick youde never know.

Put another ferret in

The rabbit might bolt

If not theirs a good chance it will be killed outright.

Then out wit the spade

Hard to say whether shes dragging it or the rabbits giving her a hard time

Only you will know your ferrets.

They are all different

As said your maybe to quick in with the spade ,your jills too small to hold a rabbit anywhere else than a stop end , just take the top spit off and check shes still there . As your finding the rabbits still alive and digging right on top of it causes it to move .Id pop and ferret in give it five minutes and dig
