Cant you insure the car and stick him on as a named driver If the kid is only a named driver he shouldn't be driving it as the only driver, that is Insurance fronting.....part of the reason quotes are so high in the first place! If he has a bump and is found to be the only driver they won't pay out. Better off getting it insured 3rd party only for a year to get some ncd under his belt, being a named driver he probably won't get ncd anyway so is false economy. Try finding an insurer that does the 10month accelerator policies. Prices will depend on where you live too.
Malt 379
Have you tried confused.com? I found Budget.com to be the cheapest for the initial year, the only thing was they kept putting the premium up more than the no claims discount, so I ended up paying more money each year even though my no claims bonus was growing. Work that one out.. Better off getting it insured 3rd party only for a year to get some ncd under his belt, being a named driver he probably won't get ncd anyway so is false economy. Try finding an insurer that does the 10month accelerator policies. It was cheaper for me to get fully comprehensive than 3rd party, fire & theft. The world of insurance has gone mad.. So whos to know he,s the only driver then ? unless of course he offers up the information ....surely if he had a dink and was asked if he is the only driver he could say " errr no my dad drives it mostly " Feel sorry for younguns these days insurance is one of the biggest scandalous robberies going.....what other buiseness can take thousands of pounds off you without ever giving you anything back !...as far as im concerned no claims bonus should mean if you aint claimed have some money back not instead of 4000 we,ll charge you 3500. Daylight robbery insurance. 3rd party only is still going to cost him bundles Edited November 29, 2010 by gnasher16
