bird 10,013
3 ive got. i try to cover all areas of the game between them got 2, 3 year old + pup. Same as above hoping these 2 will be able to do all quarry. . I do think that though, even just running rabbits can get hard, as there is not alot about. 10 years ago there did seem plenty of game about, so 1 dog would have avery full working life. But its differnt today, as i would struggle to keep 2 dogs (just) for rabbting. My new pup is not a rabbit dog, so it will not really be used for that job , it will do other work. Otherwise i would not have had it.? And regards keeping 1 dog back, if the other was hurt. Well to be honest most of my dogs have worked solo in a season, and might get a few bangs+bumps, but only have the odd week off. So another dog if just for rabbting, would not get much work.? Paid 935
i have one lurcher, 3 dogs total. He is 5 now, so in the next year or so will be looking for another. I feel, for me, 3 dogs is 1 too many, and that 2 in stagered age is the ideal. Quote Link to post
Guest arch1
Two. Both rescue dogs (Lurchers) Quote Link to post

iceman001979 1,316
9 here, 1 is Bedlington terrier O/H's pet alright for a bit of fun bushing, 4 lurcher's are retired due to injuries youngest retiree is 6, 2 are 10 and one 14. That leaves the 4 Salukis, 1 is 6 year old, 2 are her sons 1 of which I kept from the litter and the other came back to me this year, meaning am over dogged by one as I have a young bitch coming on as well. Being self employed and having family and horses it has been a struggle to get them as much work as usually would but they are not lacking exercise and are getting there teeth into something most days/nights. For the future I will ideally only have 2 or 3 at the most ( the 3 only being when 1 of the 3 is old IE 9+). I ended up with loads because the lurcher's were getting injuries left right and centre so I ended having to have a whole heap of them to be able to guarantee having someting to get out with. fair play to you fella letting the dogs life out there life nice to see that rather then just putting them down when they cant do the job Quote Link to post
