"Earth!" 503
this is why many animals are neglected, simply because some people cant afford to use the vets so try to do it theirselves.. i had to rush a bitch terrier for an emergency C section a year back, the vets quoted me over £500 which was cheap for this area and if not paid on the day,the surgery would not be performed. fortunately i was able to cover this and ended up with a litter of dead pups which was a bit gutting as all were already spoken for other than a few i intended to keep on. ginga john 268
Ive just had a terrier to the vets after being to ground for 6 days, almost dead when recovered and has had regular trips to the vets for the last two weeks So far its been mainly AB's and eye drops & ointment, bill for the meds less than £100, bill to stand and listen to the vet "advise me" to have one of dogs eyes operated on over £300 ( the quote for the operation was £2500 +), the first thing they asked was are you insured? Vets and their rip off ways are why small animal insurance is so expensive Now i would go hungry to give this particular dog anything needed but small animal vets are the worst bandits around, just look at the price of a vaccination its costs around £7 for a set or a booster jab, but at the local vets its £54 and it takes less than 5 minutes ( so i don't use them) I have found the best bet is a local greyhound vet, they seem more sensible price wise and will not try to con you into spending a fortune To all the vets out there, sort it out you greedy shower of bast#*ds :censored:

They can react very differently to drugs, including antibiotics. Giving a dog a smaller dose of a drug designed for humans is likely to do more harm than good. No way am I defending vets' pricing, but sometimes you have to accept that the b'staard has got you by the short and curlies. Ric

mattydski 560
ask the vet how much it is for a c Section for a cow....on farm........ They will charge you £-90. Ask the same for a dog......................Well , you know the rest. Because farmers simply wouldn't pay the silly money they quote for small animal treatment. which involves the most effort, most drugs etc.
shepp 2,285
I got a ferret vasectomised at a chain called Medi-vet, cost £45, that's a very good price in this area. They list set prices on the wall. A vet called Willet House are near me, what a bunch of rip off merchants. If they can drag a couple of months worth of vet bills from a suffering dog they will. Often it's the old that get stung because the dog may be all they have.

Yip bud vets are ripping us of bigtime. Was just thinking would a vet still be obligated to treat your dog.If you told him/her beforehand you had no money and cant pay. Ric Ric, you are right to err on the side of caution, but if you look into it, Clint is right. I have 'seen' used for the dogs human: antibiotics, eye flushes/remedy products, rehydration/salts, weight gain products, anti-inflammatories (not convinced of results, but always interested to hear more), anti-hystamine. Because farmers simply wouldn't pay the silly money they quote for small animal treatment. which involves the most effort, most drugs etc. Damn right bro. The town I used to live in had three laughingly so-called veterinary practices. Two were total rip-off artists amd crap vets. The third was sort of OK but not much cop really. There was also a practice in a village a few miles off which mainly served the farmers. They were 'kin ace! When one of my terriers was in trouble giving birth, I rang these vets, he said get her over here and we'll check her out. Speed limit? What speed limit? I carried her in to the surgery and the vet took her into his arms. She calmed down at once; he did a quick internal and said "Yup, there's a big pup crossways in there. Leave her with us tonight, pick her up tomorrow about 10. She'll be fine." Back next day, little bitch as right as ninepence, five fit fat pups at the milk bar. "How much?" says I. "Oh, call it 25 notes. She's a grand little dog." Guess who got pick of the litter? Mind, any vet who flies merlins has to be a good bloke. Ric
