got my eye back in with the rapid

well its been a while since i did a proper write up,and thats been because first of all the r10 started playing up and losing power,which took a while to work out after trying various scopes and being to proud to listen when si said it was running low(lesson learnt! ), then the evo was knocking scopes out due to its punch so i went back to ol' faithfull,my .20 rapid...

 

problem was by this point i'd been trying to shoot too many guns and lost my confidence in myself cos i was shooting too badly to even consider going out for live targets so i went back to basics and spent a couple of weeks battering a resettable crow knockdown with adjustable killzones,starting at 40mm and going back down to 25mm when i was feeling a bit better about my abilities...

 

i'm bloody glad i did, i've got a new toy coming, as some of you may know(7 sleeps left!!!) and i wanted to be ready for it, not to mention i didnt want to look a tosser when si comes down with the kraut next week and has a play on a couple of my permissions...

 

anyway, this week i've been back on the job with the rapid and got a few bunnies, got 3 on monday during the morning and a quick trip out in the evening, 2 kneelers at about 25-30 yds and a sitter at about the same distance while i was sat under a tree looking out for a squizzer(the missus does shredded squirrel in wraps with plum sauce-absolutely bloody delicious) or two.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

i also managed a kneeling 25m shot at a squirrel, watched him hit the floor and when i went over to pick him up discovered this hole at the base of the tree

 

 

i've no idea where the bugger went, i definitely got him but there was no trace at all of the little fella, maybe i've found a back door into bloody narnia or the squirrel triangle or summat?

 

anyway, went out again tonight for a quick mouch with the dog and got this little fella too

 

 

as a bonus, on the way back up the side of the valley i turned round a bush and found a magpie, blissfully unaware of me or charley so that was him down as well, although to be honest he was so close i could've clubbed him to death but there you go, a kill's a kill, eh?

 

so thats me happy again,and feeling confident in my abilities at these ranges. now i'm gonna start extending myself with the knockdown out to 40m, hopefully then i'll be knocking em dead when the hw100 and si get here next week, but if not then i'll have a cracking new gun to really start getting somewhere with...

Very nice to hear your back on form

 

I've not put a bunny down this week and am beggining to go cold turkey now. I feel the need to kill getting stronger, but just like you I'll be doing some paper work first

cheers lads, i'm glad i did get back to whacking paper and suchlike, i'm feeling much better about my meagre abilities now

it has to be said that the rapids gamo trigger is err not great so the krauts rekord trigger should be a shooting revalation when it gets here

oh yeah, if you get bored shooting paper, try saving the whole shells from hard boiled eggs and scattering them around, they explode a treat when you hit em bang on-most satisfying!!!

Great write up mate am i so glad that you are back to your normal shooting self

 

It looks like them bunnies were shot very clinically, a lessen on in KZ shooting to us all buddy

 

The Rapid stock looks a cracker mate and something im after for my HW95K in the future once ive scratched the camo off too much in the rat infested pig pens at Newbottle Farm.

 

Ive been looking at buying either a brand new the Theoben S Type in .22 or a Daystate Air Wolf MVT for my next pcp and am not sure which one to go for buddy.

 

Im going to go and trial them both, but my heart is with the S Type to tell you the truth mate. I dont think that the Air Wolf will shoot better than the S Type as rifles produced at those standards and to those specifications will easily out shoot the shooter.

Regarding the trigger on the HW100KT mate, ive got it set perfect and it will blow your mind buddy.

 

Have you npot seen my video with me putting a pellet on a pellet at a lased 50 metres in my indoor range?

 

Its called something like calibrating the mil dots on my HW100KT. If you watch it with a pen and paper you will be able to write down the exact hold over using FX, AA Field or RWS Super Field pellets at each range.

@ si, go for the theoben mate!! built like tractors(if they were made by rolls royce)that take all the knocks a hunter'll give em and perform time after time after etc. i cant get my head round all the computer stuff with daystate, it just seems to get as far away from good ol' basic shooting as poss to me-mind you, i've not shot one myself but my mate owns a mk3 and had to curtail a session cos he left his key at home so that put me right off em there and then... the stocks from cs custom stocks in sheffield and it really improved the feel of the gun for me, but with a 280cc bottle instead of the 400cc one i've got it'd be perfect, bar the trigger, which aint that bad once you've got used to it, and wouldnt be a problem with the mk4 unit thats on current rapid types.

i'll check out that vid before saturday mate, that'll be well usefull, especially as i happen to have a couple of tins of aa fields in the locker...

Somebody should invent an advent calender to ease the pain when wating for a new gun to arive, but each compartment should have a different make of pellets to try instead of chocolate, or chocolate too in the Weihrauch version
