a trip to A & M customgun smiths

Recommended Posts

Hi every one

WELL!!! What a week end

It started by picking andyz up at 7:00am to go to Ollerton to get some work done on our rifles, by A&M CUSTOM GUNSMITHS http://www.amcustomgunsmiths.com/

Adi had to do some work on andyz daystate, which I think he has put a post up.

And he fitted a Ben Taylor regulator to my AAS410K .177 and also pick up some parts for my summer B.S.A project!

While Adi got to work on our rifles, rob AKA spike25blue, took us out to one of his permissions for a bit of vermin control. It didn’t take long to get there and was about 30acres of wheat crop, which was about 18 inches tall .so we had to find the areas what was being hit by the bunnies and we done some static shooting.

Where we as heading

It was a windy day so we limited our range to 30yds,

And got in to the hedge row for some cover and waited, and waited. We must have been there for about an hour n half and the first target presented its self, but was at 55yds to too far in this wind. So we waited some more to see if it would come closer and to see if its friends were going to join it. Because rob and I do like a bit of synchronized shooting 1, 2, 3, thwack!!! Those who have done this type of shooting know what I mean?

Anyway we were stilling waiting for another to turn out but this was not to be.

So rob and I disused the shot! Because there was about a 5meteor break in the hedge row which the wind was howling through, but the rest of the path of the pellet was sheltered by the hedge and some very large Oak trees. Where the target was grazing and he was hungry as I watched him through my scope I could clearly see it devour an 18 inch wheat root in seconds, I was amazed. It was the first time I had seen this and could not believe how quick it eats it well bar the last inch lol.

Now it had moved and I raged it @ 49yds now as rob and I both know when we visit each other’s permission the guest gets priority shooting, so it was down to me to take this shot as time was getting on now!

So I got down in to a seated position much like you would do in HFT, lent my forearm parallel with my thigh and raised the AAS410K .22 to my shoulder. I don’t usually take shots like this in a hunting scenario but it felt right and comfortable so I went for it.

I got the cross hair locked on 1.3/4 mildot and steadied my breathing and just waited for its head to rise while it was munching on the farmer’s hard worked wheat, as it steadied its head to consume the last few inches, I was ready THWACK!

Done the follow through and see it jump up over the height of the wheat it was so hungry to destroy! And rob is right next to me and asked did ya get! It my reply was of course and a high five was in order lol, we both got up and went over to pick it up and wow! What a mess, the AA field .22 had done its job!

After this we decided to walk the perimeter, to see if there were any other areas that had been hit by the hungry bunnies, but there wasn’t .as we made our way back to where we got the first bunnies we decided to have a sit down and see if any more was going to show, as this time andyz was up front now! With a HW100K .177 which Adi lent him while he was working on his daystate.

We sat here for about 45 minutes but to no avail, and decided to call it a day. as we was walking back to the jeep andyz took the lead and was hoping for a shot, but as we rounded the corner of the tree line I think andyz was exposed to much and the bunnies what was out caught sight of him and ran off. We got back to the jeep sorted the bunny out and in the bag it went; now it was time to go and get our rifles which were finished.

And what a good job Adi had done! We also had a look at some knifes that rob had made

Which were also very well made

After this we said our good bye’s and set of on our way for the return trip of our 5 hour journey,

THANKS!!! A lot Adi & Rob for a good day out, and Mandy for the cups of tea!

Great hunting mate. Me and my mate used to do the old 1,2,3 thwack. Used to practice it aswell!

Never did it beyond 30 meters as your less accurate as you feel under pressur eif you know what I mean?

Thought we were the only ones!

Cracking shot on the bunny by the way.

Hiya Davy.

What a nice write up, enjoyed the read.

Shame there was not a bit more above ground for you both.

Nice shot on the one that did play, perfick.

Spike, the knives look excellent mate :clapper: , I would have thought about one for sure if I hadnt recently bought a new knife.

Be nice to hear how you get on with the Field Plus Davy, 18 grain, very nice weight, be interesting to see the diffence they make to the chrono reading's, will push them up a bit for sure.

Look forward to your normal detailed report while trying them out

ATB.
