aggressive dogs

Recommended Posts

Mainly the owner , some dogs regardless of breed will become vicious all on their own, some need a looney to make them that way , and some can be bred that way, but at the end of the day you know your dog or at least you should it seems every time a dog bites or worse the owner says he never did it before or it just turned, unless the dog has a brain problem they dont just turn , they will have displayed aggression at some point before this , blaming breeds is pointless the owner must be held accountable in the same way as if they had inflicted the damage themselves,

these dick heads who have certain types for ego etc who hang around most estates acting the tough guy are the biggest problem as are the fast buck breeders who let them buy them in the first place ,

do you think aggressive dogs are down to the owner or the breed of the dog

Both

i think its very unusual that a puppy is naturally nasty and any signs of aggression can be sorted at an early age if the owner so wishes but there are too many ar8holes who think ive got a big hard nasty dog im hard too, ( utter f*ckwits) who train the dogs to be the way they end up. DONT BLAME THE DOG.

any breed can be trained to be agressive but when the bull types are trained to be agressive they do more damage so thats when you hear about it theirs more mongrell type dogs biting people all the time its just you dont hear about it because they dont do as much damage as bigger dogs its all down to the owners iv had bullxs for 30+ years and never ever a problem with people its the unresponsable idot owners thinking their rambos with a big dog on a lead its not the dogs fault its the idiots which own them its orfull when you hear things like that makes your stomach turn over its real sad i cant imagin what the parents feel like

spot on ,i was brought up with [heinz 57's]mongrel's], and you did get few [snap] at you now+then. But a kick up the arse, and they would piss off out of the way. Then we had staffs, big strong dogs [18-19in 45-55lb]more like pits of today this was in the [60's]. There temps [staffs] were spot on, great with people and ok with other dogs if not challenged.?But [if] they did kick off ,they could do massive damage. So yes it is the breed, and you carnt get away from it.?? There are alot of other breeds out there with [real] bad temps, and bite far more than bull types+rotties ever do. We had bullmastiffs and great dogs+with great temps, but like the above not a dog to hold back. People i think are keeping the wrong type dog's as family pets, you old mongrel cheap+healthy, good watch dog and alot safer than most other breeds fact.

no such thing as a bad dog its bad owners :wallbash:

So all the dog you have owned have had the same temperment because you have owned them ,thats crap every dog is diffrent and some are just bad ,a owner can make a dog bad but sometimes its just a bad dog or bad breeding then it is up to the owner to do the right thing and get it pts.

95% bad master 5% bad dog, but bad dogs can be controlled with a good handler the problem lyes with a lot of dog owners havent got a clue as to training there dog and the dogs body language and others just havent or dont want to put the time in with the dog theres no bond , dogs are left on there own for far to long and nobody takes any interest in them all sadly down to the modern day living

Hagar = dogs do turn I had a mastiff x pit bitch a lovely dog she d play all day long, very very freindly loved afuss and everybody loved her but one day we were up the feild and she flipped tryed killing the terriers then tor off and attacked some old boy waking into the field i managed to get hold of her and she was all for killing me as well needless to say she had a lead injection a few minutes later , but i was in the wrong as nobody would believe she d do it , the old boy hads some nasty bites on him but he was allright about it after my missus patched him up fed him and plied him with tea

Both ...Dogs can be genetically programmed to be agressive or be born with a need to be dominent or indead to be placid ,or herd ,or run fast etc . It's inbred in some dogs . These traits are fine if they are then channelled by training by the owner into something usefull .

When the Guide dogs society used to rely upon donated dogs for training they had a failure rate of up to 80%. When they started selecting and breeding their own guide dogs for temperament the rate of failure dropped to 10%. This indicates that a calm sensible temperament is inherited . The same would apply to an aggressive temperament . The conditions that a dog lives in and the experiences it has to suffer obviously play a part along with the skill of the handler/trainer but there's little doubt that some dogs even with firm handling are likely to react in an unacceptable way when their genetic make-up and the circumstances of the moment combine to provoke a reaction. Otherwise well trained Police dogs have had to be retired because they've come to enjoy "man-work" just a little too much and sheepdogs have been sold as cattle- only dogs because they've been a bit hard with the sheep .

Something that is causing concern in dog training circles is the prevalence of Puppy Classes that allow mass play and socialisation sessions with lots of pups romping in a mellee ,supposedly playing . Dogs do play for fun of course but they use it to establish rank and dominence and hone hunting skills at the same time . These mass puppy bundles are actually boosting the egoes of the more aggressive pups which can actually make them harder to control in public life .
