Good complete dry food

Hi, I’am looking for a good complete dry food for my lurcher, what would you recommend please?

I would say orijen is the best dry food.

No offence but Redmills and the like are full of crap, check the ingredients! :sick: Barking Heads isn't bad but is still only 30% meat and 70% "other stuff". Their 55% meat claim isn't accurate as it includes FRESH meat, the water from which is removed during processing - the manufacturer has apologised and confirmed this to me in writing.

 

Personally I'd feed raw (look through this section of the forum, I'm not typing it all out again ). But if you really want to feed dry regardless, then Orijen is about the best of the bunch as someone said above. It's made from 70% meat and bones, 30% fruit and veg, and is about ideal with 40% protein and 20% fat ("puppy" formula, which is fine for adult working dogs, again confirmed by the manufacturer). Orijen is expensive to buy up front (£28 or so for 7.5KG or £46 for 13.5KG delivered, off the top of my head) - BUT you need to feed so little of it it's actually cheaper than Redmills, Gain, Beta and all the other grain based "cheap" kibbles.

Just checked out that orijen, its dear but if you only needed to feed half the amount compared to different stuff then it could be worth it, however to feed a 20kg working lurcher you would need to feed 300 grams of origen as apposed to only 250 using eukaneba-skinners etc so not really anygood for hard workin lurchers imo, prob fine for small or pet dogs tho an defo looks to have some good tackel in there just a shame about the $$.

i use beta greyhound £10 for 15kg and my mate uses syneds wonder dog. all our dogs look good and do well on both foods.

so what skinners would you recommend for an adult lurcher cheers

I dont feed alot of it mate just 1 or 2 times a week as i feed mainly meat, but i'v just finished a bag of there field an trial an was quite happy with it, i think it was 16 notes or there about buddy.

I used to feed Dr John Gold until I found this link with it giving one from six stars, only because they couldnt give any less!! Although I found his condition to be very good and his energy levels fantastic.

If you are getting Beta Greyhound for £10 ,I think you have a good deal ,its £14.50 or so in my local Petsmart.

Regarding the Orijen feeding amounts, ignore the bag... The manufacturer is well known for grossly OVER-estimating the amounts you need to feed. For example, they say my terriers should get 120g a day, when in actual fact they only need 50g a day and are actually getting FAT on it. Feeding too much gives them the runs (same as with any dry food) - if it says 300g for your lurcher you can guarantee 150-200g would be more than enough. I know people with GSDs who aren't feeding 250g and their dogs are fine. So in actual fact it works out way cheaper again, when you look at it like that. If I wasn't feeding raw, Orijen would work out at about 9p a day for my two. As it is I do feed mostly raw, so Orijen actually costs me about 4p a day tops lol
