Hi there

i have 2 dogs

a male jrt and a female jrt x dachsund,

tonight the female attacked a neighbours cat,

i dont know why as i have 4 cats myself,

after talking to a few people they suggested either lending her out for hunting or rehoming her to a hunting home.

this isnt the 1st time she has done it she did it with a feral cat a couple of years ago.

this is my main aim of joining this forum and all help/advice will be recieved gratefully.

This has to be a windup

Some dogs want to kill Cats! I'm told it's a pretty normal thing for dogs not to like cats mate lol.

Seriously come on pal get a grip of yourself! The dog has laid into a cat that was in your garden (his turf), fair play I say, it'll think twice about coming into your garden again.

its a terrier for fcks sake let it chase the cat out of your garden, all my dogs will do cats that why we only have 2 sorts around my way FAST CATS AND DEAD CATS at the end of the day the cat was on your property if the owner don t like it tell them to keep the vermin in a cage

DO NOT get rid! explain to the person whom has complained that the dog was in his own garden and the cat was in where it shouldnt be , if any officers etc come round you can show how good the dog is with your own cat?

 come on mate wakeup the dog is only doin what it is bead for chasein and killin, i wouldent get rid ov a dog if it chased a cat i would give it a big bone and a pat on the head lol, tell the person who cpmplained that if the cat wont stop out your garden then its tuff, they can only do something if the dog is in there garden doin it, and for takein it rattin that will make its prey drive worse and want to kill the cat next time,(or is that what you want lol)

thanks for that, its what i was thinking too really, i do want to keep her as a pet.

can i be done for anything for this at all? i.e. charged by police?

I have 6 Cats, all my Terriers are fine with them, but anyone elses is fair game. You cannot expect any dog to greet other Cats with the same behaviour as the do yours. Unfortunatley there isnt much you can do, except warn your neighbours that if their Cats persist on entering your garden, the dogs will chase and may catch them.

Using your dog for ratting wont help or make things any worse in my opinion, keep your dog as a pet if thats what you have her for, perhaps teach a few more obedience commands, and at the end of the day, accept what her heritage is.

Not as long as it is in your garden you can't.

If the dog is a loved pet, and good with the kids, Keep it fella, the garden is the dogs home, if a cat invades, then it is the cats fault.

What would you do if someone invaded your home.

Don't get rid of your pet dog just because somebody else's cat has a death wish. She is fine with 'her' cats but other mogs are intruders/vermin to a terrier and are there to be chased. Hopefully the fact that she has seen it off will prevent it from coming in your garden again. Agree that loaning a dog for ratting is a bad idea and will increase the prey drive and i would be worried about doing that seeing as you have cats at home. ;)

Hiya everyone and thank you all for your input,

first thing i have to say is im a woman, lol a lot of you seem to have assumed fella but nah my name is Rachel, HI! lol

anyway to the person who said it had to be a joke, why?

i dont want to get rid of her, i guess in a panic i wrote the OP wrong but i thought it may be better for her to be able to put her instincts to good use

the JRT is as soft as a brush and iff he didnt look like one you wouldnt know he even had the breed in him.

they are both perfect with my kids and my cats, so yeah i guessed it was just in her breed and cos the cat was in her garden.

i just wondered if i could be done for it (which has been answered) and if it might be better for her to be rehomed.
