  1. Will definitely be giving it a go and if they shoot well at 20 - 25 yards will stop using BB's. Much cheaper to fill up at Wilkos!
  2. I like the idea of filling them with lead; that's quite easy and in-expensive to do. I'm very happy with the hex nuts at 8 - 12 yard shooting (plinking) and need to put them to the test at longer ranges.I haven't heard of lead cubes being used but will look into that!
  3. A few people on here have mentioned using Wilko Hex nuts as ammo. I'd always thought they'd be inaccurate - however I've been giving them a go recently and am so far very impressed. I'm inclined to say they are more accurate than BB's. Certainly I'm finding them more accurate than my usual 9.5mm steel, used for general plinking; I even think they are harder hitting. Any thoughts?
  4. You can also try Therabamd UK: http://www.thera-bands.co.uk/index.php I've bought from them and they are quick to deliver. You'll need to cut them yourself though.. They allow you to buy shorter lengths yoo: http://www.thera-bands.co.uk/index.php?id_product=63&controller=product
  5. That's pretty good.. I love the crutch - starship conversion though - it looks mean!
  6. I found it to be more powerful due to the 4" extra band length. Accuracy wasn't great at first as the original forks were wooden posts for OTT shooting using flat bands..which I didn't get on with. I found re-designing the forks helped. I've still not got the right tube set up for it - having used green theraband and blue dub dub (in the picture),,,,but suspect that as I'm using 10mm steel it might be too heavy. For normal shooting I use orange dub dub with 9mm steel....so a bit more experimenting I think. A shame you sold the original! It's always like that though, so the next one should be
  7. Nice...That's similar to one I had made, although I had mine built for use with tubes: http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/350531-finished-at-last/ It folds down just behind the handle...so can be put in a bag.
  8. Welcome....another catapult enthusiast!
  9. Agree - they're much more fun to shoot. I had a BSA Lightning rifle and a Webley Alecto pistol; but dug out my old Barnet slingshot one day and found I enjoyed the challenge of shooting it far more; + it's much more portable. But shooting wood pigeons would be difficult I think as they spook so easily!
  10. A friend of mine owned a Weihrauch HW45 (as well as the HW 97K - Rifle) which used to take pheasants at 20 yards...it was .22 though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaQ_Zdg_i2s I would imagine wood pigeons would be much more tricky.
  11. 25lb possibly a bit more? Damn nice catch though!

    Europe Vote

Will be a definite OUT for me...But we're going to be up against the massive publicity machinery and money of the EU gravy train IN crowd.
  13. "There are less people on the banks in the winter." "The best reason for me? Travel light. My favourite technique is to be mobile with just a rod, some bait and a net." Factor in a great fish like a Pike and that sounds like heaven! Will have to have a go at some point.
  14. Thanks for that information everyone; much appreciated and makes sense!
  15. Hi, I used to fish rivers and lakes as a kid but then moved on to sea fishing. However I've often been tempted by Pike fishing - but never done it. Am curious as to the reason/ need for the temperature to be cold in order to fish for them...can someone explain? Cheers
  16. Nicely made but am curious about the reason for using the shotgun cartridge for the hand grip..unusual!
  17. I wouldn't describe it as the best rod in the world but I rather like my Sonik SK3 Uptide rod (10ft 6 - 8oz)...I just find myself using it all the time: boat, shore and pier. It's nice and portable and I can get reasonable casting distances (100 yards or more on a good day).
  18. A nice idea - wish I'd thought of that, would have made certain DiY jobs far simpler!
  19. Agreed! It would be nice to have control over our own territorial water..
  20. Sounds excellent....I mostly do shore fishing...although I've had the odd boat trip into the Solent. When I was a kid we used to free line for Brook Trout on the Meon chalk streams.
  21. Greetings from the Shire! What sort of fishing do you do?
  22. No, it was essentially scraps out of the metal waste bin in my brother's factory, except for the handle which did come from a BW. Even then the handle was adapted to fit my hand grip.
  23. Thank you! It was a bespoke job...built to fit, even down to the pistol grip. I bought him many beers for his efforts! NB: The front end (just behind the handle) is hinged to facilitate folding to fit in a back pack...
