  2. Just got a silver medal in the Mondial Photographique De Limours international competition with this image. Over 7000 images from over 46 countries.
  3. Do similar slip lead works well wrote an article in the cage birds years ago about this method when breeding Bullie hybrids There is one thing guaranteed in breeding.... Disappointments :-)
  4. Great pictures lads,,,and well done cracking work, great to see some still getting among them with dogs that can do the business, Good dogs are judged by what they can do, not what their owners think they can do. Scores on the doors, scores on the doors..
  5. The first one is ok as long as you can put up with the swearing..might have to turn the sound down a bit. Will see if I can get mine converted on to DVD
  6. Cracking image.. Yes Craig has done some great stuff..and JD`s images are excellent
  7. After the turn of the year everyone wants goldie cocks and Bullie hens I kept 12 Bullie hens back one year, some older birds and youngsters lost a few over the winter and leading up to the breeding season,,so yip always plan well in advance, Don't forget the sibos these can be so tame and trusting and fairly easy to obtain I've never bred hybrids using sibos but they bred them pure with little problems
  8. Nope It can work with certain crosses Always works well with greenie hens I always bred canary mules using greenie hens works a treat But everyone will have their own ways of breeding
  9. Like hawfinches too, but have never bred one, crossbills are easier than greenies to breed, and are really interesting as a bird to keep, learnt a lot from keeping and breeding them And, they don't bite your finger ends off when you handle them :-)
  10. Good stuff No problem :-)
  11. Cheers matie I am a member of this site but haven't been on in a while There is also a good British bird mike and hybrid site with lots of good boys on I bred British mules and hybrids for over 40 years
  12. Goldie cock and greenie hen Keep a greenie cock too,,when the hen starts building put the greenie cock in a wire cage and stick it on the front of the flight a couple of times a day, the hen will call to be mated and the goldie will nail her..:-)
  13. My plan was always to get them paired up as soon as possible, before the Christmas But, I've also stuck a pair together at the last minute just because I've ended up with a couple of spare birds for whatever reason, and got results Get bully hens paired up early and they will bond just as much as they do when paired up true When the breeding season comes get the pair fit All mules and hybrids are good singers but canary mules take some beating and a goldie x greenie which are easy to breed will bring the house down, and colour fed are really attractive and will breed in small flight
  14. Redpoll x bullie is the best coloured for me, and is always a bit special, very difficult to breed, and the next best if the goldfinch x redpoll
  15. Crossed redpolls with goldfinches bullfinch, greenies and canaries They cross pretty easily they are randy little beggars
  16. Oooooh some bodies tired
  17. Ahh ha A winner Common crossbill First prize a black and white photograph of queen Victorias false teeth
  18. Aye Beak deformities in redpoll mules are common
  19. Love redpolls, so tame and trusting in captivity. Bred hundreds of these guys over the years, many in canary breeding cages..
