Couldn't of worded it better. He's going through a hard time in his life. He's thinking he's got a girl who loves him but he wants to take a long hard look in the mirror. My ginger mate has gone and got a young girl pregnant, He's well in his 40 s and having a mid life crisis. His girl friend is about 20.
