  3. my buddy has a 1/2 lab x 1/4 dh 1/4 gh - it was a mistake not fast enough to gain a lot on a fox usually but will sit on a ditch ahead of the beagles and teagles and try to predict where the fox will be flushed - good dog for bushing and has accounted for a lot of foxes - very smart

    Docking?

My dropper(Setter x Springer) had to have the tail docked at 1 and 1/2 Completely destroyed it every time we were out and because he is such a big dog the vet said it was amputating a limb rather then a tail. The people who enforced this regulation do not have a clue and instead of preventing 'cruelty' they are enforcing it...P!*KS
  7. I have a Red and White Irish Setter x Springer dog - A Dropper. He is in 12 now and was my first dog. All the old guys I go out rough shooting with say I could spend my life looking for another dog like him... He goes through any cover, he wont fully set but will creep up on game and gives one bark once it is in the air. Serious woodcock dog. He has a hard mouth but that is my own fault as I used to bring him out to flush foxes (He has caught and killed 3 foxes on his own accord down the years)

Thanks Johnny2 I will be getting a bitch Thanks Dogmad, I dont have and go out with fellas who have ferrets so a bigger lurcher is what I have in mind - hare, foxes and and a dog to accompany me deer stalking (I tend to forget my rifle on some of these excursions) In truth not a lot, a good 3/4 grey collie is pretty good and would be a

  10. Dan, So you guys hunt cover with the hounds and flush em to the open where you drive after them with the long dogs and get a run then with those dogs??
  11. I have hunted with the Waterville/Dromid lads - all hare Serious day out and always great to see them call off the 'beagles' when she is tired...as a result serious amount of hares in the area. There are a few lads down there hammering the foxes by lamp so not much going on in terms of hunting them - with all the sheep down there they dont want them around at all. They have had a few lamps taken from some wild foxes - I shot a nice fox down there in Jan. I know a few foot hounds in cork have some of these hounds blood in there pack as they are serious dogs for covering ground
