  1. Ive had snipped hobs in with jills year round no problem, they only bothered them when they were in season. Does his mood not change when he's in season though? Hobs get hot under the collar and aren't as nice to work with when they're horny
  2. Get the hob castrated, then he can live with the Jill's all year round and won't get horny and agressive! You'll have to pay to get the Jill's taken out of season though. Still think its worth it.
  3. It's like saying who's better at cooking? Men or women. It's down to the individuals, personally I'd get 2 Jill's and a small hob that way you'll have the best of everything
  4. Sounds like she'll be okay, it will most likely just be her changing her coat. What colour ferret is she? I've found that polecat coloured ferrets seem to lose more fur (and re-grow it) than albinos. Check for fleas and just keep an eye on her
  5. Can't put a price on them being happy and healthy, no matter how much you've spent it's definitely worth it!
  6. Not bad for £35! Should be plenty of room for your ferrets to keep fit and active in there, nice one
  7. Yes but I think that will just be more wind and rain rather than the cold temperatures. Going to be harder to set the nets in the wind!
  8. Yes, got up to 18 here today. In October!! Hope we get a cold spell soon
  9. How long does everyone think it'll be before our first frost? Sick of missing holes because of nettles!
  10. If he's been breeding her I'd have thought he would have understood how a Jill's season works surely? But yes just leave her she'll be fine
  11. That's not the exact same one as mine bobcullen, just one off google images to show the locks that mine has. Mines a double box with two doors unfortunately. Will try the tape though, cheers
  12. Thanks gents. Like the idea of hasp catches with a climbers clip on
  13. Yes but one of them feels a bit loose, like a little snag on a branch would open it. Will try your hasp catch idea
  14. Never gave a ferret milk, is it good for them? (Not being sarcastic mate, just interested)
  15. Anyone know how I can make the clips on this sort of box more secure? Paranoid it will come open, cheers
  16. No it won't die. It's not necessarily good to leave a jill in season but many do it with no consequences. Best bet is to have him take her to the vets and ask for a jill jab to take her out of season. Alternatively find a vasectomised hob to bring her out of season. Or leave her, the decision is his.
  17. Do they all live together? Try leaving him alone in the hutch (remove your other ferrets) with some food for a few minutes just so you know he isn't getting bullied off it.
  18. I had a hob drag out a rabbit this last week, it did have mitsy though and don't think it was far underground to start with.
  19. I have two castrated ferrets. Hobs will come into season even if there is no jill ferrets. I would go with castration as there is no hormones produced by the boy, your ferret will want to be your friend and become more playful too. You don't have to wait a year before your Hob can be castrated, mine were done after 6 months. The only downside is that your jill will need bringing out if season every year.
  20. and when she comes back in season 6 weeks after the jab then what will you do? Y.I.S Leeview Hoping she won't do the same thing, if she does then may have to look into doing something more long term which I don't particularly want to do. If she is more 'normal' in her season then I'll leave her HOPING? jills will come back in season after either jab or vasectomised hob 6 weeks after when they dont produce kitsY.I.S Leeview No I know that she will come back into season. I mean I hope that she won't pace up and down like she was doing before

  22. I know a lot of people who keep Jill's without breeding them or jabbing them, they've never had any problems. However my jill since coming into season had been constantly pacing the courts fence line, she lost so much weight from it and was getting dangerously thin so I got her jabbed and she is now back to a healthy weight. I think that she would of died had I done nothing about it.
  23. Thanks for your help taking her to the vets this week to get her jabbed
  24. Since coming into season my jill has become erratic and out of sorts. When in her court she constantly patrols up and down the fence line ignoring everything else. I know it's not boredom as I play with my ferrets for a good hour everyday and have bought them new toys to keep her occupied but still no change. Is this normal behaviour? Going to get her jabbed this coming week to see if that helps. Regards.
