  1. This was still at 75yds (smaller dot this time) - no adjustments made as yet This was another 75yd group after making adjustments to bring closer to the pink dot. Really fed up with it all now Thanks
  2. Mounts and scope fitted, been at the field, zeroing. Here's a pic of a 25yd group 5 shots fired with crosshairs in middle of pink dot, all good I thought - until This was when I moved out to 75yds - still with crosshairs on same pink dot. Ignore bottom left shot.
  3. Received new mounts today. Kozap 2 piece quick detach. They look like a nightmare already, just put them together - difficult to tell if they are in line, and that's before fitting to the rifle. Thanks
  4. I have taken it all apart now, but do have photos to show where I fkd up. Will post in a moment. Thanks
  5. Another problem I came across - these mounts will be back in the post and I will search for ones which are tall enough. Is it my scope that is a bigger than usual design at the eyepiece or is my bolt taller than most? My scope is a funny shape at the back if I'm honest. Anyhow, got to take these to the post office now - my error, so come on all you haters, tell me I have no clue and how ridiculous you find this thread. Thanks to the genuine posters who are genuinely trying to help though, you now who you are. Thanks
  6. Yes, but scope was touching barrel. High was what I ordered, just a mistake. Thanks
  7. Mounts arrived this morning - Optics Warehouse sent me the 'medium' height though instead of the 'high' I ordered. No problem, they will go back in the post within the next hour or so, and so the wait begins. Slightly gutted as I was really wanting to try it out. I'm hoping this will be it now though, I have faith (for now) Thanks
  8. I only have the fmj homeloads and those remingtons which it doesn't like. Clamping isn't an easy option - would mean taking a tractor down the field - to clamp to loader, clamps, which could damage the wood, or make the barrel not free floated. This was why I just paid the £62 for mounts and be done with it. If it's not cured, then I'll see about a scope, if not I'll throw the bloody thing away. Thanks
  9. I know, see an earlier post where I said that as it is now, my setup is completely useless and worthless, sat in the cabinet like a lump of scrap metal, I am willing to spend on it, just not a silly amount. Ordered new mounts anyhow, and if I'm not mistaken there was someone on here who said they had a £20 scope which does definitely hold zero which I could buy, but for now I'm going to wait for the mounts to come. The amount of kick from a .223 is nothing, but the mounts from my HMR won't fit the .223 Thanks
  10. I've gone for it, ordered those Weaver mounts. Hopefully that'll be the end to my problems - if not then I'm scrapping the bloody rifle. Piece of junk. Would've liked to have seen it group whilst naked (no scope, no mod), but I didn't have the facilities today. Fingers crossed this'll be it. Thanks all
  11. Had a look, the mounts won't fit off the HMR. It's a Marchwood 3-9x50 - think it's only £40 new, but that doesn't bother me as long as I can see the rabbits, which I do, and I've seen two foxes through them, both foxes miraculously fell asleep when I pulled the trigger - That is enough proof for me that the scope is doing it's job. As mentioned earlier, I've no interest in spending ££££££££££'s on a scope, or any other bits for my hobby. Thanks This is the board I shot at with an opened up large cereal box!!! As you can see I didn't have much joy - will try and clamp it to
  12. I have. Shot two rounds, only one on the board. Maktayla, tell me how to reinsert the bolt and cycle a bullet without moving a mm. It's impossible to judge where the rifle was during the last shot, in order to be sure of firing the next one from exactly the same spot. It's not as easy as it seems. Would be easiest thing in the world if I didn't have to put the bolt back in!!lol but then the bullet would obstruct my view. Open sights is the way forward lol Thanks all
  13. No mod, 4 shots, fmj's, rear right sope mount tightened between every shot. 2 rounds went ???somewhere??? The two red circles are from just now without mod - don't know where other 2 went. 2 round in yellow circle are yesterday's factory rounds, 2 x highlited red rounds are yesterday's factory ammo fliers. Taken scope off at the minute, rear mount wasn't sitting straight from all the tightening I'm guessing. Hope it hasn't damaged my scope by pulling on it, twisting. Do I have to clamp it? Am using the Predator Rest from a vehicle bonnet today as it's in the shade, but there
  14. http://www.opticswarehouse.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=warne_perm_maxima_Spec_reciv_rings&cat=859 What about these mounts? Any good? Thanks
  15. Checked the mounts, that rear right one was almost a quarter turn slack. Tightened it. Off down the field in a bit. Factory ammo or homeloaded fmj? The only choice I have as haven't reloaded any soft points yet for the bloody thing, and won't be at this rate. Those remington factory loads were useless in it though, no sense in the fact they shot all over the place. Thanks
  16. The hmr scope is just a cheap rimfire one. Need to check if the mounts have slackened, haven't checked since firing 6 factory rounds. Thanks
  17. FMJ for headshot vs V-max = no brainer. Anyhow that is not what the thread is about I cannot look up the barrel with a light, too bright, but when I point the end towards a light or into the air then the rifling looks crisp, will try the opposite way later (looking from end towards the throat) Thanks Charlie Caller, you are great at giving advice.
  18. Here is the crown. Are gun shops able to take it in and check it out? Getting to the point where I just want someone to sort it, then hand it back to me. My RFD is pretty good, but I don't think he has any of the facilities - he works the gun shop from home, I'm guessing if I took it to him he'd have to send it away. How much does a service like that cost? If it's even a service which is offered. Thanks
  19. What is forest foam? To clean the crown you mean? I cleaned the rifle with patches with hoppes, with a brass jag and a one piece rod before going out on Monday - 12 rounds ago - surely it doesn't need cleaning that often. I don't know what the scope is, it just came with the rifle - there's no name on it, fairly good picture through it - not a patch on my mates s&b but his scope cost twice as much as my whole cabinet and contents cost. I know people say to spend as much on glass as a rifle, but I came into the sport and want to try doing it as cheaply as possible. I will hap
  20. Here is the picture of the target yesterday afternoon, the bottom left (red circle) was the first group of 3 I shot, with homeloads. The bottom right (blue circle) was the second group of 3 I shot - homeloads again. The homeloads are 55gr FMJ - I won't be shooting foxes with these, (they will be used for rabbit headshots when I fancy rabbit curry as the HMR makes a mess) but I have 55gr soft points ready to reload for foxes - but I won't be going anywhere near a fox unless it's bang on accurate. The top left target (yellow circle) was a 2 bullet group out of 6 bullets - factory loads
  21. These were all with mod - mod is as new. Rifle was screwcut when I bought it, then I bought a brand new wildcat mod to put on - the gunshop fitted it for me. I was told a mod would help with accuracy as it would stop barrel flip. The factory rounds were much worse. 2 out of 5 shots grouped like the others - the other two shots, maybe 25cm away, the other - I don't know, into the bank I'm thinking. Will upload photos when I have the laptop. Really had enough of this rifle, I'm loving my HMR, shoots where you expect it to. This 223 is dire, tempted to ask for variation and get anot
