    If some dogs don't like working any of the above then they shouldn't be a Terriermans dogs......So what if you had a dog that didn't like the stones but was a very devent dog in an earth? One that could get anywhere...would you not keep him? Most terrierman have 3 boxes on the bike...pick the 3 that will suit. Like strongbow said...as handy as they are/were on a hunting day, still not to be bred from.I would think the dog isn't all that if it didn't try it's best regardless of terrain.couldnt be dealing with choosey terriers.. you must have a good kennel of terriersno better then the next genu

    totally agree the wastage should at least make fox dogs, which leaves me thinking where are these digging bitches?or did the ns enthusiasts only got hold of his wastage which they keep folding back in hence the amount of poor bitches Iv seen..

    That could be said about a lot of (names) stevens had to start somewhere so you could say without Gould/Stacy stuff he would not have bred what he did But that applies to everybody whos ever bred a dog surely .If an animal has been added to ,combined with something else and now breeds true, is fit for purpose then the breeder deserves recognition .Yes i suppose it does apply. In fairness He chose well when using a nuttall and brightmore outcross.out of all the outcrosses did he ever produce any bitches good as rags? Heard skip was meant to be a good bitch!

    iv seen by far better bitches from various lines over the years, it seems ns has achieved what he set out to do and that's breed great hunt bitches.. Would those bitches have seen the graft as NS bitches though.One or 2 digs a fortnight and some look great. Try them 5 + times in the day......... a few times a week ! NS dug for a living. Only good terriers stayed with him. Same with DF , . Some folk would not believe a percentage of the stuff that NS/DF dug if you told them. i would believe and do believe the amount they've done!     I don't no what the attraction is with the stevens dogs! (unless in service) Only ever seen a handful of goodun's and they were dogs, and bitches not worth mentioning! Iv seen a few from most of the ns enthusiasts kennels, perhaps Iv just been unlucky in what Iv seen but more then most were shocking!..What about the famous Roxette? I hear she was a fair animal. Also heard bad about her, but that's the terrier world for you.can only comment on what Iv seen, also heard good things about her! She was obviously one of the better bitches from that line, she ever produced any bitches as good as her

    There's a million and one reasons , its not always black and white. From educated stuff that knows the craic to tiny vixens that will squeeze 20ft up a rabbit tube to get away from a dog. If you are saying you get everything, every time.     I've heard the same stories pal, the difference is the breeding, most lads have put any pit to any whippet, I've seen many great bull x's and I've seen many great small dogs , both equally good on a good number of foxes , each have the positives and negatives , Everyone has their own view on the perfect lurcher, horses for courses and what not.the bull/whippet thing was done over here years ago from good stuff both sides and it didn't last long as they were found wanting, to small to slow with no finish equals rubbish..
