Working Jagd X Staff Or Jagd X Pitbull

Suppose it's the same problem, what do you do with a pitbull after the odd trip to france, bring a marked pitbull back into England??? -
Terrier Breeding ????????? Were Did It Go
Accip74 replied to gonetoearth's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Yeh I was just trying to make the point that show & work could meet, but as you so eloquently pointed out, lol, I'm behind the times, so it does make it even more likely that most of these dogs are untried? But what do I no, I haven't stepped foot in a ring for 20years! -

I assumed it was my mistake...... -
Harris hawks kept in open aviaries during the moult with everything going on as usual is not a problem, as for weak feathers, the Harris has a head start on most mate in that department, takes all kinds of punishment! I moved my male to a new home half way through the moult with no adverse effects, she'll be fine.....

I was talking fells mate, too many men bred for a certain look rather than sheer staying ability, that ability to see the job through to the end was often forgot about when trying to produce a certain stamp....ATB

Is this what is known as 'Coypu' in England, orange teeth? I thought I saw a couple of them when I drove through France earlier this year....if this is the same, the south east of England had a problem with them in late 70s/80s, I think by the 90s they had all but been wiped out through heavy pest control. I tried to hunt them with our terriers on the Essex marshes in the late 80s, by then numbers were small in our area, I had no success lol, the closest I got was one of our bitches had hold of one on the Ice in a ditch & couldn't hold it. But I believe there were guys who had success, I

Worker-worker, if only more men had held that philosophy......instead of breeding to type. ATB

The name 'patterdales' also sold a hell of lot of pups for people in 80s/90s, the demand was there, & as always people supply demand, men were breeding any old black dog with another to produce a litter of 'Patterdales', that's why so many black dogs never met expectations....
-
I think there's a lot of mileage in the argument that the name 'Patterdale' had a nice ring to it so stuck, I remember talking to guy with a 'Patterdale' who had never heard of a 'Fell terrier' lol Your right gamedog they do look different, but I've had both types come out of the same bitch, same litter, so did I have a litter of 'patts' & 'fells', oh & a Lakeland as well! Lol ATB

Nice one mate, it's always a bit nerve racking ferreting on your own even when the bird is broke to ferrets, I used to use an ex-girlfriends pet ferret & she hated hunting! I could never relax, cracking ferret though..... Good luck with rest of season

Lol it's pretty insignifacant really, people will always call them what they want. What I will say is back in late 80's/ early 90's people went ******* for black dogs! I remember turning up at a little fell & moorland show & I think 98% of the dogs were black, it was hilarious! Everyone strutting round with they're 'patterdales', everyone thinking cos it was black it would do the 'business' lol hundreds got bred & all called patterdales, soon you saw them running around all over the place, loads of them inevitable 'pets'. So it's no wonder it stuck, of course the reference name ha

I would say Fell's all the way, patterdales is a conveniant name to pidgeon hole black types, & it has a nice ring to it 'Patterdale', just like rough black & tans always get referred to as Lakelands. We had blacks, reds & black/tans in the same litters, so all fells to us. Frank Buck called them fells & he bred a black one or two, so that's good enough for me. Only my very humble opinion. ATB

I admire your honesty mate & I bet it's a relief now? It's a shame the experiance may of put you off flying a gos for life, I flew a male harris for 3 seasons & I loved every minute of it, I was very fond of that bird & was lucky enough to have a good friend to gift him to when I got a gos, but I got to say the sheer buzz of hunting with a well conditioned goshawk got me hooked like a drug! Hope you get the chance to feel it one day ATB

There's was guy in England bringing a youngster on a year or so ago, a friend of a friend, when my mate told me he had been round & seen this mink & that his mate was gonna try & hunt with it, I thought it was mental! Then a few months ago I saw you on utube & I thought well there you go, someone done it. Great stuff! Not sure how the English guy got on with his, I'll have to try & find out. Incidentally you said you had more than one, do you have any plans to breed offspring for the future?
-
Plummer certainly wrote well, I was hooked on the stuff as a kid, saving my money to buy the next one! But a few years back while sorting out books to pass on, I delved into a few & he really did push the boundaries of believability lol
