  1. Yeah better feeling than the last trip. Echo Macs thoughts, I was laid up as the sun rose and watched it creep across the field before it reached where I was. At that instant I warmed up 10 degrees and had a huge smile on my face. These late night and early morning shoots are great for star gazing and catching an amazing sun set/rise.
  2. The crossman premier and barracuda match are the same weight as the magnum I'd your rifle doesn't like the Bisleys
  3. Pre-breakfast gutting, not great. If you need a bucket of p1$$ for the tanning. Let me know.
  4. well done mate. there is a lot to this hunting. some times i come back from a trip out and feel like Rambo! a few rabbits in the bag and no fluffed shots and other times i feel more like flaming Barry chuckle, one mistake after another!! The wife has started calling me Elmer Fudd now..... I think he got bigger bags than me though.
  5. Good lord, I was out with David Bailey this morning!! Love the sunrise pics
  6. Went out for a short morning shoot with Bigmac today full of good intentions and drive to get something this morning. Turned up at 4am and after zeroing the scopes we set off in different directions. I put the red filter on my P7 to give it a go with a freshly charged set of batteries and I was quite happy with the results. The main beam may have only been going 30-40 yards which was a little short for me, but it was picking up sheep eyes out to 70-80yrds so it looked promising. I was on super stealth mode today, nothing was going to hear or spot me. I’d walked most of the first field whe
  7. Yeah ha, Den, you made my morning, nice to know I'm not the only numpty on here!! Never mind mate, you'll have 'em next time. oh....I didn't blank this morning...for once!!!
  8. Cracking advice, cheers, will give it all a go tomorrow gents!
  9. Practice, practice and practice some more as practice makes perfect atvbmac  To the very long list of "bits I need to buy when I have more cash" I think I will add one of those knock down rabbit targets to stick in the back garden. I can practice standing and kneeling shots at that...give me the confidence for in the field.
  10. I know the feeling, I always think, "I am going to get 1 shot at this, going prone is my best, most stable and safest option".
  11. I think you spelt that wrong, it's not TOP DOG, it's TOP C.O.C.K. hahaha I know, I know, that'll be me spending the night hunting round the mortuary now....
  12. Skot's right, the weight comes in handy if you get into close quater battles with bugs too, one quick crack round the head with the butt and he's sparko.
  13. haha, do I ever complain? or tell you, you are wrong? You have it just right fella, don't change anything. Can't wait for an @rse kicking of Sean...haha One of these nights mate, I'm coming home with more than you...just stop shooting them before you even park the car this time haha
  14. Mate I know. Talk about landing on your feet. I could never have dreampt about meeting a couple of guys who would spend so much time and effort ON ME. This is their passion too, their hobby, yet they allow me on their permission, they give up their hunting time to teach and train me. The last trip out, Bigmac did something that typifies his attitude and helpfulness. I was having a bad night, didn't see squat, so he took his red lamp off his gun (I only have green/amber filters on mine) and he walked with me. He left his rifle in the car and just acted 100% as a spotter and coach. For almos
  15. Thanks Craig, that means a lot. You'll see I do love to spin a tale after a hunting trip, I love re-living the night and I try to have a bit of fun and not take stuff too seriously. I worry that the old soaks on here (as kind and nice as they have all been so far) will just think I'm an idiot trying to teach them how to suck eggs (as my late Mum would say). Clearly my misives are not aimed at them. I am pleased that my ramblings on here are finding someone interested in reading them, and also I know from PMs I have had, that there are 1-2 newbie hunters like me, that are picking up an odd tip
  16. Just looked up the specs and those weights are correct
  17. No. The 97 is heavier. About 400g or so if I recall the data 3.8kg for the 100 and 4.2kg for the 97 but sure you could google the tech specs without too much issue.
  18. HAHA, Mac, you need to work on your feedback methods and constructive critisism haha - good job I have thick skin and can take it on the chin haha.
  19. You and me both mate, two very funny, very kind and big hearted guys. I'm sure they'll get me into all sorts of trouble and give me plenty kicks up the arse when I need it too! It's like being back at school again.
  20. Ha, no, you can go walk with Mac, grumpy b*****d is always telling me off for something, mostly walking too loud..... mind we found some massive rabbits for you next time you are up.
  21. Wow 7:32 hours your arms must be massive lol, I had about 4 hours and was starting to struggle so we called it a night. Totally agree with filters, I had yellow last night and was only picking sheep's eyes up, we both ended up using my friends red which projects a massive red box, looks like a 60" plasma blasting rounf field and the rabbits don't even flinch, mine was like a stobe light scaring everything off for 3 miles. I had my wellies on last night and for extra comfort I put some old nike air in soles in them, they was like slippers Like you said on my post, good to see I'm n
  22. Lessons learned last night – I had an off night. Need to work on my stalking, struggled to get within 40 yards of most rabbits during the daylight, despite hugging hedges, tiptoeing through the grass and being as stealthy as a ninja. Need to work on ranging in the dark, couldn’t tell a yard from a mile last night and messed up hold over too many times. Still made the “look a pigeon” error, by the time I’d lifted the rifle, there was a pfft, whack, flutter, big thump. And a big grinning Mac “I told you, see it-shoot it, don’t talk about it”. My hiking boots are not as water proof as I though
  23. Well done mate, far more successful than I was last night. Nice to read another trainee report haha.
  24. We were keeping score? ah mate, I didn't know! pfft, I'd have made more of an effort. Good shooting Obi-wan much to learn still I have. Cheers for another good night mate. Did you save any flapjack?
