The mental pain/anger/guilt that a victim kops for never leaves them, it gets worse and ultimately kills them....slowly by proxy (drink/drugs). Even the one's who will tell you to your face that they are over it...are not...they bring thier own kids up on the obtuse and thier children end up with thier own peculiar slant on life (for every action....), sometimes without ever knowing from whence it morphed.
