  1. Iv just had soething very unexpected happen just wondering if anyone could shed any light on this. I bought a ferret for a couple of quid already in kit supposedly. I got her home and after a few week she was making a nest and I presumed shed be dropping the kits. I left her too it as you do just went in to clean her pen and feed and watet her. But after a week or 2 there was no signs of the kits and I guess either a phantome pregnancy or shes eating them as she probably wasnt used to me or her new surroundings. I then put her in with a hob and not thinking she could get pregnant for a fair wh
  2. Morton I wasnt asking because iv not been out before and want someone to show me. Im just unfortunate that most lads my age would rather go out shagging and boozing then spend their time with dogs and im sure a lit of lads will agree it can be more fun with a group of lads and a few extra dogs for a bit of ratting. Just thought other people may benefit too not just myself as I have little bits of ratting permission offered to me.
  3. I was just wondering after seeing a post about a rat pack in barnsley that I think may have dispanded if there are any still nocking about. Id really like to get out with a few lads with my terrier n lurcher and I could possibly add a bit of extra permission. Unfortunatly no one I know is that interested in the ratting side of things.
  4. How much are you wanting for the bsa lightning and the other two? I really like bsa lightnings.
  5. Hi im after a shotgun cabinet as cheap as possible really I have about quid to play with. If any one could help that would be great.
  6. Hi im looking for a farely cheep shotgun cabinet if you could help that would be great.
  7. Hi im looking for an air rifle to shoot a few rabbits and pigeons to feed my ferrets with. Im willing to pay up to 180 quid if any one could help id appreciate it.
  8. A fox got into my ducks one morning and killed them so I fed a whole duck to my tow stinkers. When I come back that night one was still inside the stinking carcass just dozing off with his head hanging out. Ferrets are right dirty bleeders when you think about it lol
  9. Bossie youve hit the nail on the head for me I know a 3/4 pastoral dog will never be as fast as maybe 90% of normal bred lurchers but when your talking about a dog like in the 2 pictures of the shepards them with a quarter sighthound for the extra bit of speed would be probably a good ferreting, mooching and lamping dog on the right ground. And in my opinion those 2 shepards look fitter than a lot of dogs you see posted on here. So the right pastoral dog with a touch of speed added in maybe could be a decent thing
  10. Their brilliant looking dogs trenchfoot. I would imagine the reverse bred collie cross would be a good ferreting and mooching dog but iv always wondered what is he/she like on the lamp? For rabbits obviously.
  11. For the first time at the weekend end I saw a lurcher bred 3/4 bull 1/4 greyhound and a scary looking dog at that. This lead to me talking to an older chap when I got home who worked 3/4 bred collie x and had good results rabbiting. Does anyone here use anything similar for any particular reason whatever it may be or just got an accidently bred dog of somthing in similar preportion and had good results. Would be nice to hear a few storys of dogs working. This is only out of pure curiosity.
  12. Westy76 sorry didnt mean to sound arsy. Worst thing at the minute for me is any rotting animal baking away in the sun or steaming fox scat and that dog has to do his best to cover himself in it.
  13. Yeah I know what your saying I dont take him running or anything like I would if it was cooler but by playing fetch if hes had enough he will let me know himself by laying down and if I see him get too tired il just stop anyhow .
  14. Just wondered how everyone is doing keeping there dogs fit in the off season. Heres my kelpie whippet greyhound. Iv been keeping him fit chasing and retrieving a wind ball and a rugby ball plus the odd few rabbits.
  15. Whatever you do dont go to any random spaz or whoever does it the cheapest. Ask around whos the best artists or even go to a tattoo convention that way if you dislike your tat later in life atleast it will look good.
  16. I think its about time I got my 2 lurchers and terrier insured. Id be grateful if anyone could share any experiances that theyve had with insurance companies and which insurers they would recomend?
  17. The problem with my dog is he can jump but wont if he has another way through even though he knows the command well he just needs time now I think maybe its a convidence issue he has or maybe he just thinks he knows best.
  18. To be honest I knew id f****d up with leaving the jumping too late. One thing I can honestly say is untill my dog reached about 14-16 month hed not been let loose on a rabbit iv took him ever so steady and believe me for young lad with his 1st lurcher its a hard thing to do when your mates are out most nights but I regret listening so much to a lot if the older guys saying that they shouldnt jump till there 18 month cos given you taken it steady and choose your obstacles I could have started him a lot sooner. But never mind its all fun and games now.
  19. Before I start I havnt got a dog of mr hancock but a few friends have and have also bred there working hancock dog. Same as in any litter there have been good ones and bad ones all depending in my opinion on the owner. With any dog it all depends in the owners patience and training and my mates have trained there lurchers well and swear by their hancock lurchers. But in my honest opinion and why I think mr hancock shouldnt be slated and why he is still running today is because a lot of people dont expect world beaters but what they want is a well looked after honest pups. How many people on he
  20. With this pup im definatly Going to start her jumping sooner. My 1st dog can jump anything especialy dry stone walls but its fences or gates he doesnt like. Its the stuff he can see through were he runs up the edge to find a gap. I suppose hes using his brain but it does get frustrating.in another couple of months il try a bit of folded chicken wire to get her jumping that. Nothing high though and il do it on grass. I hate to see pups jumping huge obstacles.

  22. Iv just bought my 2nd lurcher and my 1st has made a cracking dog but I wondered if maybe I might have got my priorities muddled up. I respect the fact that everyone has different views but this could make a good debate. Il start with how I trained my 1st dog. Basic recall, sit, stay. Introduction to as many dogs, people and live stock as possible, retrieving. But I left the jumping right untill him being about 18 months and hes too clever for his own good. He can jump but won't unless he has to and cant find a gap in the wall or fence. This could be a good thread for a newby so I hope we ge
  23. I know in humans the tendons and ligaments will loose strength if they go from an athlete to nothing over night. Just the same as a muscle deteriorates. Maybe the tendons and ligaments that make up the joints in the whippets feet just dont have the strengtg at the minute to regain her original posture. With time and conditioning she may regain her original posture or adapt even. Just for the record I think your commitment to that dog is outstanding and all dog owners should be the same. Well done mate.
  24. Suprisingly enough my labrador is a brilliant Deterant. The last thing you want is a dog that bites. My labrador lives at home with me in my dads pub and during the day he egnores all customers and you could trust him with a baby but at night after hours he barks at any noise. I wouldnt want anything unpredictable and id look at a breed I could get a little use out of too. Like a little terrier, lab or pointer etc not in my opinion a big scary slobbering dog with no purpose other than to deter people.
