  1. I am just guessing db that he has iranian lines..lol its just the way he looks and acts at times, from the pics ect i have seen on the net, but sure, what do i know... ..he is win swift/tor of dartmoor, as that's is what i was told. He is bonding well with me, i am sure he will get better as time goes by. I never said he is not using his moth properly, i just want him to get use to using it, his strike is good so far. Thanks for you input, good to hear sound advice from someone that knows the saluki well like your self. Edited to say, just read my previouse post, what i meant by not
  2. Captain, you must know the story of the ugly duckling....lol...well, i reckon that pup will grown into a fine swan when it has matured and taking long ears, as you know how to bring them on and put a lot of time and effort into them. I like that pup, think its a cracker, looking forward to see how it progresses, good luck..
  3. Best of luck with that lurchermann, sounds like your doing a grand job, as by looking at your avatar, it shows the results..
  4. Thanks . The full saluki, can be hard work, its not all easy. Last night, as i said, he cleared a field or 2 of rabbits, due to him hunting up and not coming back, they hunt for them selfs most of the time, he did come back eventually and thankfully, when i was walking back, the rabbits were out in the same field again, this time of the year, rabbits are green, so they give the dog a second chance lol... He wont be a top lamping dog, or hare dog ect, but i am happy if he gets a few here and their, he is doing well so far, but as we have small fields here in Ireland, i am not expecting 3 ou
  5. Cheers Captain. His warming up with the bunny's, just to get him fit, soon be moving onto a few daytime long ears, he has killed a couple already in day, just to get the confidence going, he seems good so far, bit by bit.
  6. Was out again tonight, nothing major, just for 45 mins. My saluki done well, although he cleared a couple of wee fields as he hunts up a good bit at the moment lol, that's salukis he will eventually settle down .. Anyhow, he ran 6 got 5, his a young dog, so the easy rabbits will give him some confidence.. i was happy with the way he ran, really boxing them off the hedge ect, time will tell, but so far its good. However, what ever happens, he has a permanent home here, his a great guard dog and the wife has got attached to him..lol Pics below,,
  7. Mike pure saluki as far as i know. He is no wonder dog, but seems to be producing a few good ones now and then so far. I am sure their is a lot more than him.
  8. In the clip at the time, marcus parish owns it and i think Brookie on here bred him, but i am not a 100% certain, good dog alright and i agree the 3rd run was the best out the 3.
  9. Nice pics and deer. Did you get a fenton moment with the dogs? ..they looked interested...
  10. Agree lads, its crazy i think, what kind of crap is that!! Just what i heard yesterday about the insurance, salukis need to run, they can not be kept on leads all the time! . I was out this morning with mine, i walked about 10 miles, he ran twice as more, his tounge hardly came out, he came back and wanted more..took him out and he ran a fallow threw several fields, had no chance of catching it, as the fallow was miles off when he first seen it, but he tryed and i really thought at one stage he was going to get it, but it was gone, he is still wanting more, so to keep him on the lead, would
  11. Apparently, most pet insurance company's in the uk, wont insure pure salukis, due to them being a liability around farm live stock, ie chasing sheep ect? Did not know this, wonder if it is the same here in Ireland??
  12. Plenty of long ears about this year, due to the dry summer... 28th of september down south.
  13. Is that a recent litter? Or a few years back?
  14. Thanks for the pic, grand looking dog. I was talking to a man a few months ago, he said something interesting, he said that a sprint greyhound bitch is better to use with a saluki, then a staying one, as their is enough stamina coming from the saluki to cover it. Not sure if anyone out their has done this with sucsess ? I was all ways lead to believe that you needed to use a staying long distance running greyhound.. ?
  15. a famous 1x pitx grey (punch) got killed on one, can be very dangerous place for any dog Very true, i keep well away from golf courses.
  16. I have replied to your pms, could not send new ones, as your inbox is full mate..
  17. Cold tea is good to wash out the eye, also, to prevent infection, 'chloromysytin' eye cream from the chemist. works a treat.
  18. Ok, thanks. I have never seen a first x that the bitch was saluki yet over here, their most likely is, but i have not seen any. It seems most lads use a greyhound bitch as they are so much easier to get hold of. I also think, most of the salukis that are used for breeding, are not a 100% prooven, they have not had 4 seasons under their belts, but they also, some, seem to produce well, but i think this then leeds to money making and the poor dogs get bred from each time they come into heat, or the studs not getting out much and are their for just that, mating, not getting any stimulation mental
  19. Just to bring this back up rather the me start a new topic. The first x saluki greyhound all ways seems to throw more to the greyhound side, this seems to be with using greyhound bitches, does using a pure saluki bitch make a difference, or is the litter still come more like the greyhound, smooth ect even when using a saluki bitch? A few first crosses seem to be good for here in ireland with the smaller fields ect, but a lot seem to get injured a lot too, due them taking more to the greyhound.
  20. Comparing a lurcher to a terrier say no more! This dogs a whippet x not a fukin bull x Dead right there: a lot of lurchers just don't see foxes as prey at all. Others need to be at least 2 years old with a lot of other game under their belts before the actual kill instinct kicks in, and some never do with foxes. Good point. I had a lurcher that did not kill her first single handed fox till she was 3, before this she would not course them on her own, just kill them with other dogs.
  21. Top way to get out and about with the dogs, some great photography their dogs look well and happy.
