    Ive lived in gods country(cumbria) all my life but its the first time ive seen that tunnel through the rocks.Nice pics mate.

    Thats what i reckon as well.Good food,plenty of exercise and plenty of work is what makes a dog.

    Its an old wives tale.Makes no difference to workability.Ive had both house and kennel dogs.Infact the best dog i owned spent the first half of its life in the house.One thing a house dog can be a bit more fussy over what it eats compared to a kennel dog or at least thats the only difference ive noticed.

    I take my dogs out with other dogs from around 12 weeks but keep them on the lead.If they so much as look at a sheep i stop,kneel down,point at them and give them a verbal bollocking.This is the way i was shown how to do it when i first started in the late 70s and any dog ive had from a pup has never chased sheep.They soon learn sheep are not on the menu.The only dogs ive ever had any bother with are dogs ive got that are not pups which is why i rarley take anything other than a pup on.If its an older dog ie like the one mentioned at 12 month.Keep them on the lead and walk through a field with

    I wouldnt run them on out till there about a year old.Let them have the odd dropper before then as long as you think there up to it.I take them out with other dogs ratching from about 12 week old but not let them do out bar look/learn.The lurcher i have now is 14 month but didnt run its first rabbit until it was appx a year old(had its first dropper at appx 11 month) ,its not done much but like i sais its just a pup,had about 15-20 rabbits all on lamp and one big rabbit in the daytime.Thats what works for me,others may do things differently but your better starting them a bit late than too ear

    Folk say this type of terrier is better than that type of terrier etc but ive had terriers since the 70s and ive had most working types and tbh i think they all can make the grade.You get good and bad in all breeds but for the most part if a terrier is from good stock and its given the right handling then chances are it will do the job at hand.One thing i have found is jrt are a bit barmy but thats common knowlage anyway lol.Ive got a jrt/patt here and its a fair worker but it is a bit highly strung.I think being of good stock and the right size is more important than a particular type of terr

    Ive found the numbers seem to come and go with regards to rabbits.You get a population explosion,like we had last summer then the mixi comes and wipes them out,like it did last autumn.Its been like this ever since can remember.Over hunting will reduce the numbers but its the mixi that decimates them imo.

    From my exp if a dogs of working stock and given the oppertunity 99% of the time they will do the job at hand.The main thing is giving them plenty of work as you can get the best bred dog in the world but if its stuck in a kennel most of time its not going to learn much.Ive had borders,patts,russels,lakeys and Xs of the for mentioned and they have all done the job at hand,some better than others.Best dog i ever owned was a larl border.

    Dog/Bitch both will do the job as good as each other.Personaly i prefer bitches but working ability their no better or worse than dogs imo.
