  1. I would try and avoid situations where there is loads of stuff about, if the dogs is wanting to chase them now the instinct will still be there in a few months time. I wouldnt worry about having him on the lead to watch another dog either as too much of this will frustrate him as well. Dont worry about rabbits too much at this stage just get it places with varying terrain (woods/fields/streams/the beach/fences/walls etc etc) where it can run around being a daft pup, its all learning how to move round/over/under stuff and IMO this will set it up better for the future than trying to catch
  2. thanks for everyone's help, very much appreciated,i will certainly take on board the advice atb Tom
  3. thanks lapin... if my dog see's things tho and i don't let it chase how will it ever know how to?? i guess the obvious answer is to let him whatch an experienced dog and keep him on the leesh. 7. hi and thanks for reading this msg... i am currently mooching my 6 month old pup around the barrow area on a regular basis, this is my 1st dog and 1 i have wanted for years !! he's a whippet (lurcher) X grayhound (lurcher) very obidient and great with other dogs. I have seen rabbits with him to which he give chase but he does not have the know how of sprinting and attempting to catch. This is a problem in my area in which i regularly mooch because there just isn't enough open ground containing rabbits in numbers which brings me round to my topic title... i was wondering if anyone in th

  9. in general/my experience bulls are all heart determination/drive wtf !!!???
  10. i go on regular mooching sesh's with a mate who has a staff and a red nose, both very willing and eager to hunt and work, both very fast but a little slow on turning/agillity but great hunters none the less, they drove 2 rabbits out the bush a few days ago for my lurcher pup (6 month) to have a good chase and sprint on, without the saff/red nose i wouldn't of had a case that night.
  11. yea i will deffo have to get some pic up like, don't know exactly wots in him, got him for free off a women who felt sorry for it being in the house all the time (good on her) when i asked her about the dogs make up, the lady she sed she got him off some travlers. And he was a 1st cross Whippet x Gray. I can't see it being that tho far more likely to just be Lurcher x Lurcher

  13. hi all, i have a 5 month old pup, very loyal and well behaved. I take him for 3 walks a day 1 being a long walk at 1st light for about 2-3 hours then a couple of others round the local park (25-30min) I am trying to get him out with a few older pups now (10-11 month) so he can start learning and building his confidence more readily. I have been told not to bike my pup untill he is 10 months old, when do u think it is suitable to start biking pups??? what experiences has anyone had regarding this matter, and do u think it is ok to do some light bike work for short periods for a you
  14. hi all, my puppy doesn't seem intrested in fetch style games with bottles/sticks. He will case [BANNED TEXT] i throw something for him but won't pick it up, i try to encourage tug of war play with me but he remains unenthused
  15. hi all i have a 5 month old pup a vey bonny lad will have to get a pic up soon. I have herd that feeding raw meat will bring out the dogs natural hunting instincts... Firstly does anyone agree with this?? And if so, than how much/frequently should he be fed and what sort of meat red/white is best ? As i mentioned he is 5 month old and about 8-9kg in weight
  16. hi all, Yday i got my 1st pup, he's a 5 month old grayhoundx/whippetx (lurcher x lurcher) he was bred from the travaling community so his parents would most likey have worked. I got the dog for free as his last owners kept him as a house pet and simply didn't have the time to walk him properly or hardly at-all. As i went to look at him he clearly had bags of unused energy and went mad from the time i got there to the time i left. The 1st thing i did was take him out on the bike for 3-4 mile, he was a little unsure at 1st but quickly picked it up but got tired near to the end at this po
