    I'm off

Was that the little black one that was sat on my knee...outside the gay bar in Brighton? Never twigged that was you Dillon, mind you I don't often read the terrier forum. All the best anyway.
  2. Cheers Kye.........having peered at that ground near the water tank where you're holding the Hare, (jack), I too would be very interested in those feet.
  3. Please tell more about the staghounds and the jack rabbits Kye, I finished Dutch Salmon's coursing book recently and really enjoyed it.
  4. She wouldn't be able to hear you mate, the Mother in Law, (a 1st Cross Hyacinth Bucket X Thora Hird), would drown you out..... Sounds like birds of prey are on the up, so something's improved since the '60s, in those days even a Kestrel was exotic round us...........
  5. If R Lass read the above, she'd be fluttering eyelashes at you and leaving me........... ........mind you, as they say, every cloud.......cos I sure wouldn't miss her mother.........
  6. Some internet service providers provide bulk and trash email bins for spam filtering. The validation messages will very often get routed in there and deleted after so many days.
  7. Had to go to Worcester for a meeting yesterday, finished early so decided to walk back to the park and ride, rather than take the shuttle. Got a cracking view of a Buzzard which overflew me at about streetlamp height. A Buzzard was once a big deal for me, I had to go north or west to see one.... :search: But they seem to have spread east in the last decade or so, and now I see them quite often here in South Yorkshire. A pair nests in a wood within 5 miles of my house, and the Missus has even seen one riding the thermals way up above our estate. My first Red Kite, (on the A4 ne
  8. http://www.barbwiremuseum.com/barbedwirehistory.htm "The Devil's Rope"..... :realmad:
  9. I look forward to seeing 'em.... Get your finger out then, Mr D........
  10. Yep, an impressive performance. Wish mine would deliver like that. Both the woodies my bitch picked up had her literally spitting feathers and the retrieve was crap.
  11. Superb read. I'll put your pics up anytime if you need me to, I'd love to see a photo of the pup.
  12. They were always after the formal hare coursing. My copy of the Standfast Coursing book was published in 1976, and includes a chapter titled “Coursing as a fieldsport under attack”. In it there’s an account of the failure of the previous years private members bill, which was 30 years ago. The expression I was brought up with was “don’t be doing it too brown”. I’ve seen a few decent bits of what I call “toleration” lost, because of a few not just doing too brown, but virtually burning it black. And like baldie, I’ve never paraded quarry off the field in full view, even off the bit
  13. Obviously they were. The trouble is, some of your audience seem to have no imagination or appreciation of poetic licence. They need to develop the ability to "suspend disbelief"......... It'll be a worthwhile talent to have  , for the forseeable future.........
  14. Amen to that....... In the meantime one of the things that can be done is to try and get rid of as many anti MPs as possible at the Ballot Box in May, (probably). We’ve got to identify them first. (I think we both know where our MP stands on the Hunting issue!). This is probably a good time for everybody to check their MP out again: http://www.supportfoxhunting.co.uk/news_sp...theyvoted.shtml And if they voted for a ban, or didn’t bother to vote against a ban, try and find out where the opposition candidates stand on Hunting.
  15. They may be. If by some miracle the Tories were to get in, I wonder if they'd completely reverse the Hunting Act? Or just amend it to bring Houndwork and "organised" coursing back, leaving the Lurcher and Terriermen out in the cold?
  16. Gamebirds you can, yes. Livestock you can't So if a fox is taking pheasants it can be bolted using a terrier provided it's then shot. But if it's taking chickens, lambs, piglets, or even the next door neighbours rabbits, guinea pigs or pigeons, (which happens from time to time round us), you can't use a terrier as an earthdog to bolt it. Defra say "In practice, persons relying on this exemption will be trained gamekeepers and it is unlikely that anyone else would be able to make legal use of it."
  17. Thank you for that very absorbing, rich and acutely observed account. I haven't read one like it in a good while, though I remember avidly reading a few really informative posts that were very similar in style, over on the old smoochers......... More please.

  19. Cheers, she's definitely no hare dog, but she's run a few local and looked OK, and I always thought on the right ground in the right circumstances she could catch one. Not tried the places yet mate, I need to walk 'em in daylight first and haven't got round to it yet. She's exercised that one on the doorstep... ....a couple of times since, but it's not a big field and the bugger doesn't sit tight. Just back from Lydiate, good company, good craic, good coursing, it was my 1st time at the Waterloo, hope it's not the last..........
  20. I don't think anybody's said it's cruel woodga, more like what a waste. But you make a good point, if someone posts rows and rows of rabbits or pigeons, everybody says well done, so what's the difference with Hares? I reckon the difference is that rabbits and pigeons are more readily seen as pests that need controlling, whereas Hares are mythical beasts preserved for coursing....... Had some more Hare tonight, casseroled in beer, nice flavour but the texture of leather despite the long.....low.....slow.....method of cooking.
  21. Cheers, I will get in touch if I ever come over again, looked to be a fair few rabbits and bass............
  22. I was peppered whilst beating, along with 1 or 2 others and a mates springer. I've still got 1 faint blue mark, (bit of no 6 pellet?) at the back of my knee. It was more than your average soft pattering rain of lead. Proved the body amour value of a well waxed Northumbria in freezing conditions though.... The bloke that did it got a bit excited and let fly at a Hare, (after "lunch") :realmad: The offending weapon was one of a matched pair of Purdeys costing £22,000, at a time when my 1st house cost me less than £10,000........ The twat walked off leaving others to calm t
  23. Probably same way as chilli I reckon, I must've seen it on "Taste O' the Sea" or maybe I read about 'em last time I was in Guernsey. You've had some VERY nice Bass recently, by the way...............
  24. I'm now South Yorkshire based, but originally from a bit further north, where the beer and fish n' chips are much better.... Started off fishing at 6 years old, and I've done a lot of that, don't go much just now though, not enough time to do it all. Always had dogs as a family, but I got properly interested in hunting when I was about 12, got a BSA Meteor and a "Sheep Cur" from a Emley Moor farm, mainly went ratting down the river and drains, a rabbit was a rarity round there in those days. Didn't get a real hunting dog til I left home in my early '20s, lived on my own for about
