down to yourself really , some lads change chokes some don't , i read each bird on each stand then decide ect crossers i tighten up as clay is flat so you want tight pattern, springing teal ... clay is going up you see alot of its face so depending on distance you can open up abit , but abit of experience helps to read the birds , try not to get bogged down about chokes on your first day out 1/2 3/4 or 1/2 1/4 and just enjoy the day
