  1. Cracking looking pup JD! You intending him for abit of everything (rats and rabbits) obv
  2. Ye how you describe your old dog is how I want mine to be eventually! At the end of the day when we go ferreting its to help the farmers as much as having abit of fun. So holes will be netted and she will be there to pick up any that come from bolters or miss the nets! We don't tend to use long nets so having a good dog to tidy up loose ends is always handy!
  3. Cheers lampalurcher I was thinking about letting her come out at end of season so that would basically tie in with what your saying!
  4. I no that's pal! Had people tell me to get her out as soon as and others say give it a good while! Not going to take her out yet obviously but would be interesting to know how guys get on!
  5. I have a 10 week old pup whippet x saluki/whip/grey that I want to be a true alrounder! (rabbits and rats ) She is the 1st lurcher i have owned always done more with hounds and terriers and the lurchers i have worked with have been more fox retrieving dogs for after they have been shot. so im wondering .....What age do you introduce your dogs to ferrets and what age do you start letting them come with you ferreting I'm not talking about working them ! Just sitting watching listening what's going on around them! Cheers

  7. So has anyone ever been out ferreting and ended up with something bolting to the nets that wasn't a rabbit! I've heard tales of foxes bolting into nets and a young boar badger So what have you guys had that's out of the ordinary?

  14. Not necessarily 12 month but hard runs will put strain on joints etc! Taking it out with ferrets to learn isn't guna hurt early on and the odd easy one will keen it up! Also if it sees a few bolting bunnies when it gets a run it will be keen as mustard
  15. Standard practice round here had a lovely 50yard pipe more often than not held! Yet some prat with crap dogs has broken through 7 times and left it all open it's buggered! So frustrating
  16. Be patient at the start and you will have a gd dog for a lot longer! Hammer it too young before its developed and it will be knackered before its prime!
