Alcatraz you being serious???? rabbit is no good once frozen???? These 4 ferrets of mine must be near deaths door then, as their still eating portions of rabbit caught in January. Feed it chicken wings/drumsticks and it will fatten up straight away, leave some dry in there at all times and it will be fine. Will look rough depending on how long it's been out living wild. Check it over for ticks as there normally covered in them, I know mine was when he got out.

Aye, just change the length or type of whistling you do, ie a long whistle or 3 blows consecutive. Do this and then follow with the word no, they will soon pick it up if practiced often. Just look at some of the gundog videos etc.
-
Yeah that's true, think its only recently that they joined forces so to speak, as we got a letter through the door a few months ago to say the DD would be changing.
-
Make them out of old pillow cases, thinner material and HUGE, mine sleep on it all year lol

Bit late I no, but hope your doing well Joe. For those that don't know Joe helped me get sorted with my terrier bitch, coming from a mate of his and she's turned out to be a little cracker. Also gave me a bonus lesson on setting up a long net out the back. Get well soon mate.

Mine get 2 a week mixed into there mince, that's between 5 ferrets so not a lot really. Everything in moderation and I've had no problems, dogs got one each as well on their food.
-
Get them on meat, dry wont be enough for them as a staple food. They are growing and need lots of GOOD stuff, meat, bones, bit of offal etc. Don't get me wrong, I use dry feed feed during the summer, but ALWAYS make sure there is meat on a night and remove what's left in the morning. This especially so when kits are around, when they get meat morning and night. I would plum with calcium deficiency, but could also be dehydration. I would put a big dish of water in the cage, as even if you have bottles, some kits don't learn to use them straight away and in this weather it can turn deadly fast.

Yeah that's true joe, looking at the reviews for all the dog insurance, there doesn't seem to be a stand out company. They all seem to be 50/50 with good/bad reviews.

I'm surprised as well tbh, both my terrier and German Shep are insured with Argos. Had a big claim put in with them last May when my GS done his cruciate and had to have X-rays, check ups, operation, tablets, injections etc etc think the total was about £3500 and it got back tracked to the first problem he had with his leg from about 5 months previous, when we thought it was just a muscle tear/strain.

Yeah thats right, should say I mean the mince you get for the dogs etc, with the bones, meat and whatever else has been put through with it. I will edit that in the post

Get as much meat in as you can. If you haven't got rabbits/carcasses, then mince(dog food type) or chicken wings are your best bet and leave the biscuits in for if they get abit hungry. I would feed as much as they will eat morning and night , you don't want to be leaving meat in their hutch this time of year as you will be plagued with flies.

Everybody is different mate, most will say 6 months, but i like to let them be kits, so mine tend to miss a season then i start them the season after, unless i have a big sett that needs a decent amount of ferrets. Obviously if you just have young ferrets i would say 6/7 months should be ok. The most important thing is too take your time and be patient, don't expect them too be bolting rabbits straight away. All the best mate

This jill has been spayed mate, forgot to mention that. She is still fine in herself, eating, drinking being active. She was out today as i had a call out, worked well and bolted 3, like i said best one i have, just gutted i got her when she was already spayed as i would have definitely bred from her, she will be around 6 now. Will just see what happens, but the last thing i want is if its something serious, id rather her be pts than carry on and watch her deteriorate to the point were she cant do anything.
-
I'm having the same problem with my Jill at the minute. No other ferrets are like it. The lumps seem to be on both sides of her neck, just above her shoulders and one is below her chin. They don't seem to be bothering her and I can touch them without her trying to stop me. Look similar too mumps in humans, just a solid lump. Planning on a trip to the vets on Tuesday if its the same just too find out what it is. She is getting on now and don't no if its just an age thing. But think its lyphoma tbh as reading up on the internet it all points to that. She is my best worker as well but so a bit gu

Stinkers/frontbum same here lads. I stopped late feb when i found young and since then i have been too my permissions twice and the dog is marking EVERY sett we came across, shit all over the place aswell. Looking good just hoping the no mixi or other diseases.
-
This is a permission that normally has very few and is actually one of my pigeon permissions. There must be a canny few rabbits tbh as the area with crop damage is a good footy pitch in size. Just hope there ain't too many young'uns.
-
Farmer phoned me earlier about some problem rabbits. Said they were hammering his crops, went over about an hour ago and the damage is unreal. Don't normally ferret at this time of year, but can't use the rifle and need to keep the farmer happy. So looks like I will be doing a bit on Monday
-
Didn't know they only lived on the hogs tbh with you, better safe than sorry was my initial reaction.
-
Aye true about the fleas mate, gave both the terrier and German Shep a blast of frontline this morning just in case. My first terrier so not used to it, thought the spines might put her off but it made her worse lol
-
Anybody elses terriers go mad over hedgehogs. Mine goes absolutley bonkers when she gets them, found 5 last night, 2 the night before. Normally she just leaves them, but recently she has switched onto the bushing big style, having got a few rats and bolted a few bunnies. She used to just bark and paw at them, but has started to grab hold of them, blood everywere last night, thankfully no spines in her mouth like.
-
Same here with my terrier once shes on a scent there is no stopping her. Ive got a german shepherd who is the same, in every other situation he is fantastic, but once the natural instinct is there you have no chance.
-
The worst thing is I forget 10 minutes later and the dirty fecker starts trying to lick me and the kids! This. exactly this. Aye and that lol

Get some pics up mate. My bitch is from middleton lines(dams side) and the sire is from a line of white/tri-coloured lakeys. She is only 11 month old, but she has been excellent so far for ferreting, ratting and bushing. Been out a few times with me when shooting pigeons from a hide, retrieved a few aswell. Good luck with the dogs mate
