  1. Thanks everyone. What more can I say... your comments and sympathys are greatly appreciated. Shell
  2. MRD - No, not much Oxcroft. Peds on our website still.
  3. Here's my hubbys arm and leg. He's not had anything done for years and years, colour is going out of them now. He's always been obsessed with terriers and lurchers! Arm Leg Shell
  4. Just over 9 years ago we went to collect our first bought in Border Terrier bitch, Pendle. She cost us £250 at the time, but we knew the breeding was right for what we wanted. She was half sister to Malcs Border bitch, Needle, who was a fantastic worker. As a pup, she was a right little character. When we bought our first house she was 6 months old. First thing she did was tree the neighbours cat! She was constantly stealing things – screwdrivers, bags of screws. She found a wet paintbrush and proceeded in dancing around the newly painted living room and giving the green walls a nice c

    dogs and children

I've got a 3 year old daughter, 4 Border Terriers and 2 lurchers. I think Lurchergrrls advice is spot on! You've to teach your daughter to repect the dogs, and the dogs likewise to respect your daughter. Only thing I can add is... Our lot live in the house and we've a couple of crates the younger ones sleep in. We've always taught our daughter that if the dogs go in their crates she's to leave them alone. She's also taught that if she's doing something to a dog and it starts to pull away, she's to let it go (eg putting a fairy suit on the lurcher pup, hair clips on the Borders!).
  6. Dog most to the left on both pics is Danny, Malcs old Border dog. Malc says... This will throw you!!! You contribute your bull headed patterdales to staff breeding, and I don't doubt for a minute that staffs have had an influence in the breed, but when I started with Borders 20 odd years ago, you used to get some slape coated Borders with heads like bull terriers, wrinkles in the forehead and all the lot, and with not good fronts either! Some of these were out of nearly the same breeding that were being shown at the time. Some of them were as hard as iron, particularly the dogs. Buck and
  7. Jesus! Puts our 30 odd last weekend to shame! Best we've ever done is 170 in the day, and that was busy! Well done! How many dogs? Shell
  8. We keep thinking about running the 01 Navara on veggy oil / diesel mix, but just daredn't do it! There's a spot in town that does the bio oil, it's 98p a litre. But, we dont' know anyone first hand that uses it, only people that know people that know people - you get what I mean! If we knew someone first hand we'd maybe venture into it! Don't want to feck the engine up... best car we've ever had and most money we've every spent on one!!! We've just bought a little run around...using that to compensate for having a gas guzzler!!! Shell
  9. Congratulations! Glad they are both doing well! Shell
  10. langleycharmer - that's her mother in the picture stood next to her. She's pretty much collie x grey, her father is an old fashioned norfolk type lurcher. shell
  11. Had a trip up to some persmission yesterday and took the whole team with us, 4 Borders and 2 lurchers. As we set off it was peeing it down, but by the time we got there the rain had thankfully eased off a little, still, everywhere was a mud bath! It wasn't a bad day really, although nowhere near as good as some of the previous trips up there. Accounted for 34 rats, plus a couple of nests of young. Didn't manage to get so many good photos as only Malc and I were the only ones out! Had a look around the farm to start with. Straight away the dogs marked underneath an old trailer unit. Atol
  12. Sorry to hear of your loss. We lost a pup of similar age the other year so know what you're going through. RIP Yella. Shell x
  13. I put a couple on the back of my Navara and they are great! Would recommend them! We had problems with the back end sliding when there was no weight in the back and the roads were damp/wet. The Goodrich pretty much put a stop to that happening (still to drive it with respect though!). If you're going to get some, shop around. I paid £ each, but had quotes up to £120 each. Don't know how many miles they'll do... but judging by the tread on em they'll last a good while! Shell

    SO HAPPY

Fantastic news! All the best, Shell
  15. Went back up to our permission on the North Yorks Moors on Sunday. Took all our lot, 4 Borders and 2 Lurchers, and our friend had his spaniel and russell. Bag wasn't as great as the last time, but we had some good sport and some great fun! Our young Border, Hope, who is 8 months old, did well, and we were really pleased with her. Getting well stuck in towards the end of the day and marking holes. First of all we went to the farm and checked round the back of the grain stores, where it was absolutely wick last time. Straight away the dogs were marking. Our lot had already had a coupl
  16. Start em young I say!!! I'd sooner I'd have her outside with the dogs learning something and getting fresh air rather than sat inside! My little one is 2 and all we get is 'go catching rabbits? get wellies on... get stick... cmon mum'. 2 yrs old, out walling. Out walling again. With her beagles. Like you say though, we've gotta watch their mouths. We had 2 sheep, called Norman and Stanley. Every day she had to go and see Norman and Stanley. Then they went in the freezer... and she's telling everyone 'Norma Danley in freezer for dinner'. shell
  17. Lovely looking pup Dawn! We've got a pup at the mo that is 9 months old and she'll be lucky if she makes it to 12 months. I call her the ASBO pup. She is by far the naughtiest Border we've had for a long time!!! All the best
  18. Cheers everyone! Was a thoroughly enjoyable day! Dogs as usual did us proud! shell
  19. Malc and his mate arranged to go ratting yesterday up on the North Yorks Moors. I should have been working, but managed to wangle the day off to go with them. An hour and a half journey and we arrived on the free range poultry farm. Had a reccy round, unloaded the dogs, smoker, digging gear, and set off. Firstly, the farmer wanted us to have a look around the barns. Found a few holes, positive marks from the dogs, got the smoker in and rat number one was accounted for by our lot. The Border standing back is little Hope, 6 months old, came along to see what it was all about. Wasn'
