  1. Had a phone call during the week from a friend in Lincolnshire, who's mate owns a chicken farm. The chicken shed had been emptied and our services were required to go and wipe some rats out. So up early yesterday morning, on the road for 7:30am, dropped nipper off at mums for the day, and away we went. Arrived at Alans at 9:30am, had some breakfast then set off to the chicken farm. Upon arrival things didn't look too promising. Had a scout around, not many holes, not really much sign of life. This is the fourth time we've done this chicken farm, usually get 40-60 a day. Thought we may ha

    4x4 MPG

I've just bought a Navara 2.5 TDi, 51 plate, and absolutely love it. For the size of it it has a great turning circle, really roomy and comfy inside. Does about 30 mpg. Tows like a good one, drives lovely. Used to have a Ford Maverick (same as Terrano), and the Navara is far better than that for mpg. shell
  3. Thank you all for your kind replies and thoughts. Feel so numb... still can't believe she's gone. Thank you everyone, shell
  4. Today we brought home a new pup (the terrier x spaniel) and this evening we lost our lurcher pup. I'm absolutely devastated. We brought p***y home 8 months ago. We waited 7 years for this pup. A real old fashioned Norfolk type lurcher that hadn't seen any infusion of running dog for 40 years. As line bred as they come. The sort of dog that would be quite happy living under a vardo, hence the name, 'p***y'. That licked your kids faces and retrieved chickens for you. A great temperement, good with the other dogs, with us, and with the nipper ( although she didn't really like getting beaten u
  5. Bloke we got her from uses them for flushing to the guns targa. Should do us nicely for what we want!
  6. Went to have a look at those Border Springer Spaniel x Russel Springer Spaniel pups this morning, and ended up bringing one home! :clapping: So meet Tick... Travelled well in the car on the way home. Got her home and let the others out, they had a sniff, she had a winge, and they've all settled with her straight away. She's been happily playing with the Border pup, Glory, and is now fast asleep with the big lurcher, Atol. This is her mum, the russel spaniel. Didn't get a picture of her dad, he's the border spaniel and has thrown very heavily towards the spaniel.
  7. Nice looking dog Countryman! The parents of the litter are both workers, which like you say, is vital. The bitches in the litter are black and white, I suppose they'll be easier to see in cover than the Borders are!!! I think we've already decided... we'll no doubt be putting a deposit down on one of the pups!!! Thanks for all your replies everyone! Shell
  8. We are looking at getting a new dog to add to the pack (why have I agreed to this!!!! ), something for using in cover, for bushing up etc. We're going to have a look at a litter of Terrier x Spaniel pups later on this week... They are Border x Spaniel X Russel x Spaniel. Wondering if any one has any experience of working a Terrier x Spaniel? What are they like? Any pics? Would you recommend us getting one or not? Thanks guys! Shell
  9. RIP Freddy. I've got a one year old myself, can't even begin to imagine what the parents are going through at this time. Sweet dreams little man. Shell
  10. My lurcher had one of hers taken off about 2 years ago and that cost me around £100. shell

    YouGov

I get sent one or two a week on average, sometimes more, sometimes less. The credit varies from 50p for doing one to £1.50. I ignore the prize survey ones, as I've never won owt on them so don't bother filling them in. Money for doing nowt. It did take me about 18 months to get up to the £50 first time though! Shell

  13. cymro... Bet yours aren't as ugly as these... shell
  14. I've got 6... 2 lurchers and 4 Borders, all bitches. Lurchers are 6 yrs old and 6 months old. Borders are 11, 7, 3 and 2. Mollys totally right about restrictions being in place as to how many you can have. In the deeds for our house (living at hunt kennels now so it doesn't apply at the mo) it says you can have a maximum of 2 domestic pets. When we lived there we had 5 dogs, 4 ferrets, and 5 chickens. As long as no one has grounds to complain it's all right. We choose to have 6 dogs, and I can't stand people saying we've got too many. As long as they are all looked after well a
  15. Saxon, Broughton hall is on the A59 just outside Skipton. It's signposted from the main roads and roundabouts near by. If you type Broughton in on Multimap it should find it. If not, type Skipton in and Broughton is to the left. The terrier and lurcher show is usually signposted to turn off by the gate house, just tell the blokes stood along the way directing folk that you want to park by the terrier / lurcher show and they'll direct you. We've got the Beagles there this year, so no doubt i'll get collared into manning the stall at some point! shell
  16. Jay, yep it's the one near Skipton. shell
  17. Sash, It's on the 25th June. We'll be there with our hounds this year, looking forward to it! Shell
  18. Moll I use 4 Borders for bushing up for the lurcher and I've never had any bother either. Sometimes rabbits are a bit mashed up, but that's to be expected if you've got 5 dogs hanging off them. But nope, have no bother with them fighting or anything. Shell
  19. My hubby is KH to a pack of Beagles. We've followed the pack for years, but decided to move in to kennels last summer as the previous KH was moving on. Shell
  20. I'm with Diamond now, cheapest for me. Admiral were fairly cheap too, but I think Diamond are part of Admiral. When I first passed my test I got the cheapest quote from Budget. Other than that, Tesco are fairly good. Hubby is with them at the moment. shell
  21. I'm going! Might show a couple of the Borders... (thought I'd better post before I got kicked off!!!) shell
