  1. 23" a handy size for anywhere lovely type trenchfoot
  2. I also find it strange when people think you need a small dog for small fields as other than the first few yards an average or bigger dog (all else being equal) will generally be quicker. It's being able to manage the speed that will make the difference.
  3. I'd say a good hare dog will catch in small fields or fen but adjust it's running to suit. Some know on massive land they won't catch in 30 seconds so go steady . Same dog will jump through fire to catch in smaller fields .
  4. Because you recon a bull x cant even catch rabbits. Didn't say that. I said my old dog would catch more game in six weeks than your bull x could in six months.Would that be by weight or numbers
  5. Yea mate I appreciate they did organised coursing for years, but out of interest ,was the most successful coursing dog ever the most successful show dog ? Not a loaded question as I have no idea, but that would give you some idea of what the clubs priority is/was. This is in no way knocking them as I've never owned one ,but at the same time it would be great to see them for what they could be
  6. In a LOT of breeds they are totally different . Look at most gun dogs collies gsds etc etc. Unless dogs have a purpose and are bred from to that ends working dogs suffer greatly from k.c. shows . You only have to look at a show type greyhound to see they are a different animal to a racing type, and racing type different to an older type coursing dog. The deerhound fairs no better. Form should follow function unfortunately with showing that isn't the case
  7. let me know how you get on with it dodger especially if it helps them keep their weight on
  8. Funny I said that earlier my youngest pup left some earlier and the older dog finished it off, I'm really hoping he takes to it as its a lot of food in a small meal ,so will help with his weight.
  9. Dont agree with you there mate. PLenty of bull x's were 24/25 and 60~65lb and had pace to catch stuff single handed.bull x's can knock all sorts over including deer under the lamp but a daytime roe or hare thats up and running 60--100 yds away will live to see another dayhow many of you kids even worked/owned a dog before the ban? And im not talking your second cousins twice removed nannas neighbour lol.those who state this/that can't be done have obviously not seen alot and done f**k all imo.the smell of bullshit is over powering go give your tusks a scrub cause they f***ing stink The third

  11. It clearly depends on how much bull is in there how big the lands is ,what cover is there ,how conditioned the dog is, if there's anything else in the breeding . How much heart the dog has. Granted coursing dogs they ain't . Just a sweeping statement from you . They are cross breeds mate they can throw in loads of way especially if they've been bred for a few generations and not selected for being heavy and cobby
  12. Yes 100 yard slip that won't be the end of the course would it ,if they was up and running
  13. don't get it.!they'll catch anything.no with big slips before they cramp and get acidosis, have you ever heard of the waterloo cup.?Yep. Did they run roe single handed over 100 yard slips. There plenty of dogs with Saluki and collie get acidosis of a real stinger I can't say a pure greyhound would fair any better. Try it let us know how you get on.
  14. A dog with some bull in it will catch as the same as a dog with collie will catch just don't be so breed blind ,you are obviously going off dogs you see at game fairs , not all are lumps
  15. don't get it.!they'll catch anything. no with big slips before they cramp and get acidosis,
  16. Said the man you wants a pure greyhound lol
  17. all I'm saying ,is that you can't say a certain cross will do this or that ,in reply to you saying " So are you insinuating collie x greys can't pull a fallow deer?" I know many will. don't be so touchy lol.
  18. I think I think some will, some won't I know of a few that won't ,I know of a 3 legged dog that would easily so no hard and fast rule really.
  19. On this thread mate one gvc looked a nice type
  20. Ave made me mind up regardless what some people think about Collie crosses as a think the breeding of a first x collie to a first cross beddy will throw some good pups and am using gvc dog to be the sire over me bitch.Sound mate ,as long as you are happy, that's all that matters ,just think it get ridiculous folk getting personal of the question you asked Good luck with the breeding, and hope you get what you want,........ Have you thought about using a bull cross? definitely not pal lol. might start another topic tho first x bull grey?? give the bull haters a chance to have there say pm
  21. Just bought a bag of Eden 80/20. My pup has been on it a few days and so good so far ,her Shit is similar as to when she eats raw and it seem quite palatable. My other dog is still turning his nose up to it though ,fussy wanker.

  23. f**k sake ,why do people take the extreme of every cross to compare lurchers ,I'm sure if you look towards the centre ground there will be a decent mutt there regardless if the breeding ,just pick one that suits the work you do ,but why waste all your energy ,slagging dogs you'll never own haha
  24. Had quite a bit off them never had and problem
