I just came across this on Ebay. Is it safe?? If it is, how accurate is it? Anybody out there use one?? 22 Hornet /223 Cartridge/Chamber Adapter - Barrel Insert http://www.ebay.com/itm/22-Hornet-223-Cartridge-Chamber-Adapter-Barrel-Insert-/121084290191?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c312fa48f Just to clarify, i have no intention of buying one what so ever!!!

My father-in-law gave me his old Spanish single barrel hammer action 12 bore the other week as he's giving up shooting due to his deteriating eye sight. He bought it when he was 18, and he's now 73. 54 years!! I've no intention of using it mind, he just didn't want to try and sell it as probably worth nowt....

Advice Needed.17Hmr Or .22 Hornet??????????????
jam1e replied to jam1e's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Well I guess its going to depend on whether you want to reload or not. Those who've shot the new .17WSM on press days report 1/2 MOA groupings, 1/2 the bullet drop or wind drift of .22 Hornet and in practical usage, very good results against Coyotes. With almost the same energy, its a very even call on choice. It's going to be horses for courses but its unfair to write something off before its even been released. If the OP doesn't want to wait or prefers Hornet, then fair enough, its his choice but give .17 WSM a chance as it could be a game changer if it lives up to its pre-release re -
Anyone Exchanged Their .17Hmr For A .22 Magnum???
jam1e replied to jam1e's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
No idea about the grub screw, and only one reply from Pothunter. Thanks for the reply mate! As for the accuracy issue. A full Hoppe's cleaning rod kit with copper bore cleaner and were back to normal! So nice one on that front anyhow. -
Very nice indeedy!! I have 3 CZ's and they're all great rifles, and great value! And i love the set trigger on my .204 Ruger CZ 527.

Advice Needed.17Hmr Or .22 Hornet??????????????
jam1e replied to jam1e's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Thanks for the replies fellas. Realistically, (and not being up on importation issues regarding ammo/rifles) imho the wsm won't be around for some time in the uk. We're hardly a big money maker for the USA, so i think most supplies will go elsewhere, way before we get a look-in. I also prefer the .22 Hornet, partly due to the fact it has been around so long, and as "Charlie Caller" (CC) has said, it's tried and tested, and the reloading data available for it is huge! CC, it's good to get info from someone who shoots the Hornet alongside someone who shoots a hmr. I've heard people mention -
Hi folks, I have asked a few questions here and there on the forum about my quandary. It may be opening a can of worms and no doubt there will be good points for both. Anyhow, I already own a nice .17hmr CZ 452 Silhouette, with a nice "Rimfire Magic" trigger and a 10 round mag. Which i like, bar one thing. It really gets on my t*** when at distance, (around 100 yards) it's affected by even a breeze. Yes, i can and do adjust my aim accordingly, (to the best of my ability) But it's just irratating..... I sorted my recent hmr poor zeroing out with a good clean.... Sunday just gone was a love

.17Hmr - Clean Barrel After Use Or Not?
jam1e replied to Beefbeefbeef's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Same as Stalker, although only put 1000 ish rounds through my hmr. Never had/noticed a split case. But yours is a fair point Deker, i don't examine every case....Never really thought about getting a little brush and cleaner into the extractor lug seatings. Will do it when cleaning from now. Can only be a positive! -
.17Hmr - Clean Barrel After Use Or Not?
jam1e replied to Beefbeefbeef's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Same here. Although, when the zero went off recently i had abit of a job getting it clean. I used my normal routine. Forrest foam bore cleaner and a snake but it just wasn't sorting the poor grouping out. I shelled out on a Hoppes rod cleaning kit, including patches, oil and copper bore cleaner. I was amazed on how much c*** came out even after several runs through with the bore cleaner. After around 8-9 patches it came up clean. I took it out yesterday and after 3-4 shots it was bang on again. -
Hiya mate. I was watching this on Ebay, but as far as i'm aware it didn't sell. Maybe worth messaging him? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121109509460?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D121109509460%26_rdc%3D1 Just a thought.....

I certainly did not experience any problems with the 35gn vmax I think what you are talking about are the 50gn vmax designed for .222 .223 22-250 ect they are longer than the vmax designed for the hornet,12.3 gns of H110 (max load) will give around 3100fps and is a devastating varmint round, however I switched to 45gn Sierra hornet bullet, whilst not quite as fast as the vmax it holds its energy longer and I found it flatter at extreme hornet range, and a hell of a lot cheaper too, also if shooting rabbits and you were slightly off target, it did not blow them to smithereens, but dropped foxes

How flat is the .22 Hornet? (Generally speaking) Say in comparison with the .17hmr. Looking at the Lee Modern Reloading Data it's kind of strange seeing loads as low as 7 or 8 grains. And 13 grains being a hot load! Clearly cheap to run! But less than 20 pence a round would surely take some doing??? Is there much truth in v-max heads apparently needing to be loaded one at a time into the breech due to the COAL not fitting in the magazine?? To be honest i'm seriously considering putting in a variation for the .22 Hornet in the next few days. Granted it's limited to the 200(ish) yard distance

I never knew that. It's on the BASC website but there's no mention of it in The Deer Act that I can see. Maybe it was a later Act that amdended the provisions in respect of cwd and muntjac. Same here. I thought, in England it's .243 for deer, regardless of species. Nope, all changed in the Deer Act Amendment 2007....keep up! Edit Applies to England and Wales, Scotland has their own version and I'm not sure about NI. I knew it really, was just having you folks on......... Wouldn't make any odds anyhow as my main permission, (where i've only seen them) the farme

Whats the noise level like with the Hornet, (Presuming its moderated)?? My .204 is a right ear basher. Even with a good mod! Do you reload? If so do you crimp the rounds?

I've recently posted about problems with accuracy with my .17 hmr. That will no doubt get sorted. If it isn't already after giving the barrel a good clean with a new cleaning rod kit and Hoppes products.... Getting to the point. Accuracy sorted, i've still gone off the round as it is so affected by a wind. I know it's good practice to learn to deal with the wind, but that still doesn't stop me losing interest in it due to this reason. Hence, I've started reading up on the .22 Hornet and it's use on a regular basis. Reloading will be the way i go, as i already reload my .204 Ruger. I've read t

Firearm Variation .17 Winchester Super Mag
jam1e replied to hitman hilts's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Yeah definately and accuracy seems to be the .17 wsm's forte. In this video using test ammo and pre-production guns and a rucksac as a gun rest (!) the reporter says he's shooting 1/2 MOA groupings at both 100 & 200 yds. That's some accuracy especially with pre-production stuff! http://www.petersenshunting.com/2013/01/02/introducing-the-new-17-winchester-super-magnum/ Alsone You need to calm down a bit, you are getting carried away with promotion spiel. Invited/selected guests have had their hands on a 17WSM When did you ever hear of a new calibre being slated -

Firearm Variation .17 Winchester Super Mag
jam1e replied to hitman hilts's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Apologies, I misread that chart, the far column is 250 not 400yds. Still 150 ft lbs @ 250 yds isn't bad. Its around the same as .22LR at the muzzle (depending on the ammo choice of course)! Energy retention at looooong distances in the field isn't a problem with many calibres, many carry plenty of energy way after their "usable range", the problem comes with actually calling the shot and delivering the energy accurately to the right part of the quarry at loooong distance. A .22lr Sub has plenty of energy to knock down a rabbit past 300 yards, the problem is delivering that ene -

Anyone Exchanged Their .17Hmr For A .22 Magnum???
jam1e replied to jam1e's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I took the stock off today, just to be sure everything was tight and give the barrel another loooong soak in what maybe my poor quality cleaner....... Anyhow, on doing so i noticed the following. Where the barrel screws into the receiver block there is a hole drilled and tapped on the underside of the receiver just infront of the plastic magazine holder. I presume it's for a locking type grub screw. However, there is no grub screw in it. Close up i can see where the maker has tapped a chisel type mark accross the mating face of the barrel and receiver. I presume this is done to ensure that if -
Why Am I Such A Bad Shot With A Shotgun!!!!

Which is exactly what I was saying from the start. And you were right on the money Charlie Caller, abit of extra comb height needed!
