What Glue Do You Use For Making Hardwood Laminate
Sheffield Catapults replied to bigj's topic in Catapult & Slingshot Hunting
I recommend Titebond 2, I use that for all my laminates. I would steer clear of polyurethane glue, it may start curing too fast and it's also pretty horrible stuff to work with. -
Yes I meant making the laminate yourself pal.
-
It will make a strong catty, as for nice it depends on what sort of aesthetics you like. Plywood has never been something I have considered a nice wood to look at or work with. But it's each to their own
-
You are better off making it yourself pal. Is there a certain design you have in mind?
-
If you really want to use plywood then marine grade Baltic birch plywood is the best stuff to use, personally I can't stand using it and prefer to use cross laminated hard woods. But whatever floats ya boat
-
The slingshotforum.com is the daddy of catty groups, it has a hunting section too

When microwaving sticks in the microwave it's always best to place the stick inside a zip lock bag! You now know why lol.
-
I've never shot a PFS when hunting so I couldn't really comment sorry, I know some people who shoot them very accurately to great success though! I like the Super Sure pouches due to the way they form around the ammo, they have a very nice feel to them which I find makes gripping the ammo easier and more consistent. They just seem to get better and better over time. I'm not selling them currently but I am thinking about selling them with all my catapults and band sets soon. As for selling them on their own I wouldn't really be able to make it worth my while as the price of them would have

Let me know what you are interested in on there pip, I'm in contact with a lot of the makers on there

Excellent work on all 3 jobs! -
I like shooting both OTT and TTF, for target shooting I prefer TTF and sometimes shooting butterfly style. For hunting I prefer OTT as if I miss I find I can get another shot off faster but that's just my personal preference. As for PFS's they are a kind of catapult and not a band attachment method hehe, I haven't mastered using one yet but it's something I plan on doing this year. I have always used kangaroo leather pouches but recently received some great laminated ones from the states which I am becoming quite fond of. I have some kangaroo leather for sale if anyone is interested?

When drying them in the microwave you are ultimately wanting to dry them until no moisture comes out. The problem with doing this is you can kill your microwave, that's coming from experience.

Fantastic work!

i shoot steel bb all the time and dropped plenty with them ie squirrels pigeon ducks pheasant and rabbit all with steel or marbles so dont really need that extra weight I've killed things with 9.5mm steel too, but I find lead does the job better
-
If you are going to be making them regularly I can't recommend Lee Precision Mould's enough. Steel doesn't pack a big enough punch for hunting purposes.

Sorry when you say a money back guarantee please could you be a little clearer in what it is you wish to be guaranteed? Yes if you look on ebay there are cheaper options, but if you look on Google you will find there are also much more expensive ones £50 is quite reasonable when you consider what goes into making our products, I can assure you it's a lot more than elastic, glue, sandpaper and postage. Please take a little time to learn about our products over at http://www.sheffieldcatapults.co.uk/blogs/news before you start to judge, we do not simple make flat board cut catapults like mostly

my friend rest assured im more than worthy of making a comment .ive no doubt in my mind that ive more experience in the use of a catty in the field ..than most .as for five hours to make one .well ive never heard any thing so stupid to be honest .ive no grudge mate why would i have a grudge .ive only to look at this rubbish .because thats what it is .impractical rubbish and if your selling this to youngsters for such ani exhorbitant price your ripping them of . you mention your experience .and make reference to help making them and running a slingshot forum .my experience is using a catty out
-
Not at all, you said our products were over priced, I was simply trying to point out why something like that was priced the way it was. Some people are catty enthusiasts and don't mind paying for something a little bit more special. Just like you might do with a gun stock etc. Hope you have a good XMAS.
