Cheap Or Expensive Mole Traps
Probuk replied to scotfalconer's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Fair comment Dido, but i think moles only breed between march and may so there not always looking for a mate. Mole tunnels tend to cross over another moles tunnels more than often, i think this is why you get a few double's early on in the year. I lay a few traps in the main highways inbetween fence post or in the hedge rows..I sometimes get four in the same trap in just a matter of day's. I might put upto 3 traps in 1 hedge row or between fence posts. Infact most my traps are laid like that and the odd 1 or 2 are in amoung the feeding grounds. I think all mole catchers have there own lit -

Cheap Or Expensive Mole Traps

The one you can see in the picture was put in this evening, so just hopeing it works out..ive never used them before. Ive got the cheap talpex types all over the place, i never seem to fail with them, its almost 100% catch rate for me using them and i dont find live moles in them so they do the job.. I love the fenn trap aswell..works spot on almost everytime i put one in. Atb Marty If you haven't caught one in the morning consider moving it. The trap doesn't look like it's set tight enough for my liking. Set it in tighter in another good location and it should do the job, Sor -

This is the first Barrel trap I've laid..I'll be gutted if theres no mole and its bunged up with soil tomorrow. I also laid the Talpex type, top right of this picture... Both flat packs, the bottom trap is the cheap Talpex type ive been using very succesfully for a few years. As seen here -

Well as it goes iv just aquierd a few flatpack traps..barrel and a talpex type..or it might me a talpex..not sure. Iv just layed them both. I must admit that the talpex type is an absolut monster compaired to the type im using at the moment and its compleatley clear that no mole will survive when it goes into that trap. As for the barrel..well thats a bit of an evil object aswell.!! iv never used barrels before and the bloke iv got them off says he has more luck with the talpex. He reckons he only ever get the barrels bunged up with soil. Atb Marty -

Well lets look at this from another angel..if you where out on the beer tonight and you managed to pull a fit bit of stuff...before you go home together she says she fancys somthing to eat. Do you take her to the chippy or would you take her for a Chinese.??? Lets say you go buy a new car, a car made in England of course...would you find it exceptable if the salesman says.."you'll need to give it a bit of a tune here and there to get it to work effectivley.?? I bought a load of Talpex traps last year..and more recently, i just happend to stumble across a post say..If its a genuine -
Better still place your trap in the run, don't set it, open it and let it spring shut to make sure there's nothing impeding the jaws, stones, etc and it fires freely. Place a small piece of mud below were the trigger will sit, so the trigger sits on top of it, position the trap and keep one finger on top of the trigger as you push it level onto the mud you have packed in the centre to prevent it from fiering Fill with soil. There you go..i couldnt have put it more simple myself.Good luck Tom. Atb Marty
-
The mole has got to move the soil and simply sets the trap off trying. Keep the claws out the way off the tunnel. Marty

Hello Tom..try bridging just under the trigger. When you've dug out your run, get some soil and compact it in a mound just under the trigger width ways. Set your trap and push it into the tunnel till your bridge sets off the trap..reset lightley and place back in the tunnel..and crumble your soil in upto the springs..i get almost 100% catch rates like this. Thanks for the advice chaps but im not wanting to be a mole geek. As for the know your animal thing..well its a mole. See.. just saved £15. Catching them is easy, aslong as you set the trap properley...once you set the trap the mole will get trapped in it...now you make £30. And it cost £2.00 for a cheap trap off ebay...if you buy more cheap traps for £2.00 you get more moles. Simple!..Im 43 own my home..paid cash..own luxery statick home..paid cash..own my own car..paid cash..own my own motocycle..paid cash..Infact the tuth is i cant afford £15 for a dvd on moles im skint lol. -

I was chatting to someone today and they mensioned they had moles on a caraven site and that they pour petrol down the holes to get rid of them..is there a law against this kind of action.? I told him id have a look at them but these are the kind of folk that wouldnt do anybody any favoures and im reluctant to do them.
