And there you have it. We got needlessly personal. We've laughed, possibly cried. The conclusion is: The walther lgv competition ultra is a possible upgrade from a tx200. Hoorah!

Offer him £85, say you'll need a new stock, tuning kit, rebluing, big job big job but you've heard they're ok, so are happy to do him a favour and take it off his hands...

A Hunters Review of the SMK TH208 .22
milegajo replied to milegajo's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
If anyone has a 208/buys a 208, feel free to get in touch. I'd be very happy to share my experience especially if you wish to strip it down, as i suggest you do with any gun. Helps for keeping a gun in good fettle, and don't be fooled into thinking swarf and shredded piston seals dont happen to weihrauchs etc. -
Great stuff. Nice to know there's another chap out there truly assisting guys into the sport.
-
Just transformed my 95 from the usual weihrauch twang to a sharp thud and performance to rival any pcp. How? Piston sleeve and gun grease. You could use a pop bottle, but probably best to buy one of those ptfe sheets for £7 odd.

Best grease for internals

Ahh interesting...will keep an eye out for that. Didn't think molybdenum ignited under pressure. -
Had a kid in my platoon leave his disposable lighter next to his hexi burner when we were on an exercise...the bang got him an 'nd' (negligent discharge) charge and a date with the csm. hehe. Those safety drills will follow me to the grave...

Oh and im fairly certain that that cv joint stuff is indeed the same as the rather expensive 'gun grease'. Save yourselves a packet gentlemen 500g should last a lifetime! -

I'm sure its great on mainsprings. That molykote stuff is for bearings rubber and plastics. Just the ticket me thinks for piston seals. Used in castors on trolleys. I'm guessing its alot thinner and less 'sticky' than molybdenum. -

I used that £6 odd for 50g until I found its the same stuff as car lube. Only 10x the price. Mole I dont think that's the same as the molykote. Think its the black stuff. If its the stuff i paid 15 quid for then, dammit! -

No need to re-read your post. You're now alleging that Tony Wall of Sandwell Field Sports will sell you a 'Bag of Bolts' and flatly refuse to rectify it even if you offer to pay. Careful now. That does not sound correct to me. Might give Mr Wall a ring and question as to why the TH208 is worth making profit on and gracing his shelves, and yet, according to you, not worth going on his workbench. Lyn Lewington (Venoman) has written some great articles on stripping and tuning the TH208. If Tony Wall is as awkward as Mawders suggests, Lyn is the man. -

Thanks Tron, a refreshing breeze of reason. I'm all for debate, I'm open to being criticized. But t'would appear to be a form of blasphemy to breath even a hint of praise on an SMK product! Well, for two members so far anyway. Ah Well, Nothing wrong with a bit of praise for a product if it's justified, but go back to your original groups that you posted, you stated that they were the best groups you had achieved with the 208 up to that point. Ok, how many people would accept them as a good enough standard to hunt with? You are an experienced shot and know what you are doing but t -

Evidently this is a 'marmite' product. Facts, rather than opinion and hearsay are: It hits and kills small game. It gives sub inch groups at thirty yards with Crosman Premier Hollow Points. I view the above as good. I view the gun that did it and the features it possesses as good. I offer the reader my experience. Definitely try before you buy and most certainly shop around as with any and all purchases involving a sizable sum, be open minded and don't necessarily believe all you hear/read. We're all different. A gun club or other gathering of enthusiasts is possibly the be -

Tony Wall? Allegedly he does and you were told porkies. The grouping shows what its capable of with the right pellets. -
With pleasure Skot. Smk Th208! Oh no wait a minute. Despite it being one of SMKs best offerings, you aren't on a shoestring therefore my advice would have to be; Hands down, the HW95k. Nothing better that fulfills all your criteria that I can think of. A tune would be beneficial on a Weihrauch so do factor that in. A must for lower priced guns. Even a DIY kit would be good but I read excellent reports about Sandwell Field Sports and Tony Wall.

A Hunters Review of the SMK TH208 .22

So here's a quick pellet test. By lying beneath a swing and a bush, I extended my range to 30 yards. Including the flyer, this group measured .923" with the flyer excluded, just .404" !. These shots were taken prone. Very very impressive. However... The Thunderbolts which gave such good results at zero range opened up dramatically. Therefore, at best, I have to say these are good only for close range ratting 10-15yards. Now my next test triggered a memory after revealing how very tight fitting pellets affect the rifles performance; The Norica Apaches were sec
