  1. I do need to get replenishing our wood supply, which is job #1 tomorrow. But winters have been a fantastic experience living the way we do. My attitude towards it was one of loathing and suffering, now, I welcome the early dawns and long cosy evenings with my little family in front of the fire. Last winter never really happened bar a week perhaps. Winter before last, when temperatures dipped to -12C and the solar panels struggled to cope with the inverter and 240v bulbs of the static, we switched back to hurricane lamps and paraffin and I shall never forget the orange glow and the
  2. Tah Davy, if you get bored in swindon, pop down that a419 and we'll have a 'croc off'! Deepest thanks Simon. I've talked to skycat about possible wider/commercial publication of my work. Its a passion for which I do not require nor seek financial reward so I haven't really pursued it as perhaps I could. I'm honoured by any who take the time to read my musings, they say a writers biggest challenge is finding a reader. It is therefore gratifying to gift copies irrespective of the expense and nice to see the number of downloads of the free pdfs. There is a lot of call to know more about ho
  3. Haha I seemed to have misled a fair few folks. Miles/Mike? Whichever but in person people call me Mike. On here, they call me all sorts of names Mawders? I won't ruin the surprise, but I can say he smells like chemicals and soap. Thanks for the encouragement and compliments, as for any more videos, I'm not sure, it was a helluva job to find a computer more powerful than my little netbook just to edit the damn thing. I'm also not really sure how I can contribute better than the likes of Si and Davy. I'm also a bit shy and uncomfortable with displaying all to YouToob. Ya never know
  4. Nope, a hot chocolate before bed at 21:00. (22:00 at the weekend) Old man I am.
  5. I got i.d'd not two weeks ago. Being as i'm approaching 30 i was super chuffed. And you guys are too kind! Davy. I'm sorry, the lack of foam footwear was inexcusable. The off centre shot was due to both lack of mag (was at 3x due to scopecam focus) and lack of ability. I was chuffed I even got it! Haha
  6. Haha! Its those organic veggies! Cheers fellas, Supersport vs TH208? I think most would plump for the beeza, though I love having a thumbhole stock on a springer. Oh, and I am semi retired lol.
  7. Nice shooting there. Those units intrigue me especially the day capability. If it were more compact (a huge ask I know) I might be tempted. As it is, I can't justify the outlay.
  8. Nice spam Mr.NICE consider your post reported fella. Thought I smelt a rat...
  9. Mawders does a good job of mincing...
  10. I would've thought a rapid/daystate the way to go.
  11. Yup. I shot em. Landowner very pleased.
  12. As has become the norm, despite my protests, this morning I shunted a pile of my daughters miscellaneous items out of my way so I could sit with my coffee and flick through my favourite Airgun magazine. But I got distracted. Amongst my eight year olds paraphernalia was a publication entitled 'Outrage'. I was bemused to say the least that not only did this magazine have such a negative and emotive title, but that my eight year old might be reading it. If she were in her teens I doubt I would have batted an eyelid! My curiosity aroused, I had a flick through. It was published by Animal Aid and
  13. Like truffles, you need a trained a pig to gather these so I'm afraid that info is classified... (incidentally, the pig is in town 'gathering' some as we speak haha!)
  14. The HW95 has proven to be a very capable and valued addition to the armoury. Check out my latest mooch with it http://1nomad.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/the-hunters-chronicles-tuesday-11th.html I used a pop bottle as a piston liner and my mate says it feels comparable to his SFS tuned .22 HW95!
  15. Are puffballs edible? I was brought up not to touch them. Granted its only Wikipedia but http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lycoperdon_perlatum "It is edible when young and the internal flesh is completely white, although care must be taken to avoid confusion with immature fruit bodies of poisonous Amanita species. L. perlatum can usually be distinguished from other similar puffballs by differences in surface texture."
  16. Think it was on Ray Mears that I heard a story of a scientist who messed up, recognised the symptoms and wrote the species on a card for the ambulance crew. Saved his life. All very well but Joe Bloggs probably wont know that...
  17. Wow senility is setting in fast...repeated myself twice in the same post! That can't be good.
  18. I found two juicy looking common puffballs on a stroll the other day. Roger Phillips has written some good books on the subject. Mushrooms I found this common puffball on a stroll the other day; Without the need to take the risks with wild 'shrooms I tend to just photograph and learn as I go. Another very good though basic book is; Mushrooming Without Fear
  19. Thanks Aaron Profitt. The hawk eyed amongst you will note the airgun mag in the top left corner of the second picture in
