Well proportioned looking knife. Well done again! -
I now have a belt grinder which is fantastic for flat/ concave grinds but you can't beat the rubber wheel for the convex grind. You de-flate the Tire, fit the belt and re-inflate the tire to hold in place. Simple but effective.

Make Your Own Tools Thread.

Yes Lee bit sickening indeed...fair bit of time went in posting pics etc...but a lot of folk enjoyed it so didn't mind....the thread had a fair good run with the 2nd highest post/views in the craft section, only outstripped by Midnight "At the forge day & Night". Ah well all good things must come to an end. I will post the occasional thing on here but it all seems to be a bit dead now...back in the day there was a fair bit of banter as soon as you posted something up. Don't know if it is the new website putting folk off or if they have just moved on to other places F.B etc. For me Fac -
Yes convex grind. Very technical machine required.......a wheelbarrow wheel on a lathe with a sander belt on it.

Love the brass end cap profiled into the sambar.

Thanks all for the positive comments. Yes Nicolas would love to make more, just do it for a hobby among many other things. Not a big hourly rate in making a unique knife from scratch. Griff

This design has a special reminiscence for me as it was the design of the first knife i was involved in making some 35 years ago. An old boy, an engineer to trade took an interest in me as a lad and forged up a similar blade with me i "helped". He gave it to me some time later and i still use it today. It is a good all rounder for butchering up a carcass, recently helping a mate who has a small holding and does his own butchering and he admired it. As he gave me half a carcass for the freezer i have made it as a gift for him. Series 2 Land-rover leaf spring deferentially heat treated blad

Hi ant, sorry missed your post.....not got the hang of this new web site yet!Yes just polyester resin for fiberglass i got from a roofing guy. I have layered up denim for knife handles and cast it direct onto the knife, it works a treat. Wear Nitrile gloves and dip each strip of material in resin and squeegee the excess off through your fingers. Put a srip of polythene between the resin and the clamping blocks and clamp it up. Heres one i did. P1060475_zpslbsy3j7u by Terry Griffiths, on Flickr P1060476_zpslro7dxhv by Terry Griffiths, on Flickr P1060481_zpslrpzsza5 by Terry Grif -

And it works on mice too!

Well lads thought i would try an old school trap.....probably the oldest one in the book.....and blow me it got results faster than the modern traps. Made up this dead-fall trap last-night checked this-morning and the peanut butter was licked off the bait stick, so wrapped a bit of wire mesh around the end and packed in more peanut butter so it would take a bit of tugging to get it out.......checked just now and success!
-
Thanks guys, will try some victors and do some mods.
-
Thanks lads....yes new to Fenn traps, advice appreciated. Going to be tight to get it in sideways....might have to get the saw out. Cheers Griff
-
Thanks. Thats one advantage of the antler-it dosn't swell. With the phosphor bronze contact plates it is nice and tight but runs smooth. Griff
-
It was caught in it alright....but not a clean kill, back legs only hence the air rifle and a pellet through it's head. The trap nearest, you can see where it tried to pull itself out and hauled a lot of bruck in. When you say wrong way round you mean just turn it end for end?
