Most light agile working terriers, be that a cross or not will kill rats for the hell of it, my preference would be Beddlington, Russel,or Plummer type, a beddy x whippet would do the job nicely and pick a few more bunnys up than most, some Whippets make shit hot ratters dispite them looking on the fragile side.

Heater for Terrier sizes kennel
buster gonads replied to buster gonads's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Finnished fitting the heater and it works a treat, if anyone is going down the same road as me i found the best frost stat for the job is the Corgi frost stat from Toolstation, just over £10, its the only one i could find that went from +10 down to -5 ,most only go as low +5, no good for the job IMO, i,v set mine at -2 before it comes on and i,ll adjust to suit, should stop the dog and water freezing, ATB. -
Is Bulldog gear any good, they have them on offer at PTS [plumbing trade services] for £15 + VAT, seems a good deal.

After all thats been said both for and against i went to get the dog out this morning and his water was frozen, dog seem,d warm enough though, iam going to fit a heater today and place it in his kennel but on the side near his water bowl, kill 2 birds with 1 stone, still going to fit a frost stat though, only want it on when its freezing. -

No. The 1 i,am going to buy says you can mount it on timber and the like but not on highly flamable stuff like polystrine or plastic. -
Go into your local fishing tackel shop and ask them for any local angling asociations that need help controling mink, the ones ive seen while out fishing always seem to be holed up under some big willows so take a axe for the roots.

Heater for Terrier sizes kennel
buster gonads replied to buster gonads's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
I am thinking along the lines of fitting one but only turning it on when the forcast is rearly bad, iam a self employed gas fitter so the colder it gets the buisy,er i get which doesnt help the dog much, i would,nt have liked to leave a dog out in the weather we had this time last winter, hopfully next year he,ll be coming to work with me. -
Heater for Terrier sizes kennel
buster gonads replied to buster gonads's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Thanks for the addvice lads, not too sure what to do now, some for, some against, i think the idea of putting a heater in the kennel is as much about soothing my concence as keeping the dog warm TBH. -
Iam as soft as a bag of nobs with mine, he has a scrambled egg for brekie every morning, i go to work without .

Heater for Terrier sizes kennel

Thats why i thought about putting it under the floor so it doesnt need a guard, dont want the dog chewing or laying against it, do they get hot enough to scortch timber, i made the kennel out of 22mm marine ply kindly donated via a very large Tesco coming soon sign . -
Been looking to fit a heater into the pups kennel as he,s on his own, has anyone used the 300mm long, 60 watt bar heaters that Tool Station sell, they,r only £15, didnt know wether to fit it in his kennel box with a gaurd over it or fit it under the kennel box as the kennel,s sat on a wooden box off the floor, and let the heat rise up through the floor [may need to drill holes in the floor] iam going to wire it through a frost stat so its only on when the temp gets to approx freezing, any addvice would be welcome, as i,d like to get it right the first time. cheers all.

Any one know were you can get the flexable plastic kennel door covers, ive seen them while out working, they look like a verticle blind hanging down from the top of the door opening, sorry i cant give a better discriptsion, i,v asked the owners but they said they were on the kennel,s when they bought them from an auction -
I think the cost of pups is the main reason why scum bags are stealing them, never a week goes by without somone getting there dogs nick,d, cant believe how much addvertised working dog pups have gone up in the last 10 years, much better to get a pup off a mate then return the favor at a later date, unfortunatly for one reason or another some of us have to buy in and the thiveing goes on.

Terrier catching hare!!
buster gonads replied to bushing lad's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
I always used to run a Beddlington with my Lurcher and the beddy never caught a Hare but he used to turn a few back to the running dog as he was never far behind, a beddy and a running dog make a fine pair, i,ve seen plenty of lurchers that couldnt catch hares though, all owned by lads that said they caught every hare they saw, oh yea. In 20 years i only ever put 2 hares to ground, 1 down a large rabbit set under a tree and the other into the end of a roll of rubber bellting stuck out the ground, a hare has to be desperate to go to ground. -
Ive got a 9 week old Plummer and i let it run with my fowels while iam cleaning out and getting the eggs, its fine while iam watching it but as soon as you take your eye of it its got hold of one by the arse and they,r four times his size , wish i,d kept my big cock bird, that used to have a go at me, i,ll borrow one of a mate if i cant stop him, happy days.
