  1. Hence my statement before about the type of collie. I found if I used welsh collies, they would have a natural cantankerousness for foxes especially the dogs. If I used a Scottish bred collie, it was more likely to piss itself when it saw a fox.
  2. If I tell the truth I will be accused of telling lies. I called them picture postcard dogs for a reason. I have found out over many years that picture postcard houses look great on the outside, but inside they are always unsound and often rotten to the core.
  3. Somebody was asking about the black country sting, I think we all know whats meant by that. Well here is a photo of a perfect picture postcard lurcher, bred by the terrible little instigator of that sting.
  4. I dont think you will get 10 years, life has changed for the worse.
  5. Not much difference between a red Lakeland and black fell apart from a name-Patterdale.
  6. Makes me smile people talking about the various cross mongrels, the reason is its all been done before, no matter what crosses we may think of, its been done either deliberate or accident. I've seen everything from Pink Puddle whippets to Great Dane Greyhound lurchers, the latter was one of the best big game done I seen, sadly a tale for private ears. so here is a photo I scanned of one of the talked about Xs, notice one merle. Sorry could only find pup photo, the red ended up pig tailed.
  7. So chatting to one of the older guys on this forum about middle eastern carpets etc got me reminiscing a bit, so there was nothing for it but to cook a Khoresh and fried mixed veg and fruit,
  8. Well said, I base my opinions on working collie types, I had not time for the others. Strangely I had a pair similar to those in your photo when I was a young man and they caught more woman then rabbits.
  9. There are so many variables its difficult to make a judgment. I have owned and worked brilliant 1st cross collie greyhounds, bred from the right stock, I have seen and owned others that were rubbish in comparison. Every Beardy first cross I've seen baring one including my own were very headstrong and in the wrong way, one exception that was a great worker. 3/4 cross greyhound collie from borders I had and seen others brilliant on rabbits, fox etc on seriously rough ground, yet others were like pure greyhound in almost every way. Beardy never saw a great one, only ok at best.
  10. Thats because it goes against the dogs rights don't you know?
  11. Before the age of 10 i had a pair of tame weasels
  12. Very easy to tame as are all wild mustelid's, I have never had any issue with any of them.
  13. On a greyhound flat out its between 16 and 17feet
  14. The official warning this time came in the form of court hearing and fines! and faces splashed on TV- "mum look Im famous" lol
  15. It always amazed me how many dogs hit rabbits before picking them up, almost knocking them off balance and not deliberately. Yet other dogs seemed to make the pickup so easy!
  16. Great photos Old Phil. Anyone remember the time in 80s when some poachers were picked up coursing on the plain, when a helicopter was used to get them??
  17. I am led to believe[I was not the breeder] that both of these dogs were the produce of a lurcher to lurcher mating. The dog used was a Polish shepherd dog x English greyhound, the bitch was a Polish sheep dog x polish greyhound. The offspring were all hairy or woolly, The biggest male matured at 30" shoulder, the smallest 24" . Apparently they are soft as mops with people and that includes kids, but they will hunt anything, anything at all and will do so all day long.
  18. Thats the type of answer I expected but couldn't be further from it. Although the pseudo wolfhound is a big powerful dog.
