  1. had the ferrets done on wedensday all are fine and a £35 bill for 4 have to stay home for 10 days then they will be ready for the bunnys. can report that my ferrets took the injection well and show no symptoms or side effects.
  2. to much egg can cause some to shed their fur (protein) so the egg thing is best kept as a treat . cat milk is fine as the lactose is not in it. i did give mine the cd jab yesterday but that was only after careful consideration and a major outbreak of canine distemper in my area. i innoculate the dog so i have to give the ferrets a fighting chance.feed ferret biscuts, liver and once a week meat as a treatand i wet the biscuits down with water otherwise dry food means loads of water to sake their thirsts
  3. in all the 40 odd years i have been ferreting i have never once thought about vaccinating ferrets but have changed my views as at the moment due to this outbreak being in my area and after careful reserch i think its for the best
  4. all i know mate from what the vet told me is that one vial will do up to 4 ferrets though some people give a half vial. through reserch we are gathering the dosage seems to vary though we have not had a report of a death through the vaccine being introduced to the ferret. the north east ferret rescue has a policy to vaccinate ferrets and when they had the recent outbreak have only lost two ferrets so i presonally think that this speaks volumes. and yes it is the vaccine that the dogs get.
  5. so pleased you were vigilant dan - hope they pick up quickly from the infection they had and thank god it wasnt cd
  6. dont have to be anywhere near an infected ferret - it can be picked up in the field whilst working, humans can carry it in on clothing,it's an airborn virus , foxes, badgers, weasles and stoats carry it too
  7. my vet recommended cows milk for eye infections - i know ferrets are lactose intolerant but have had to treat eye infections and believe you me it worked. just soak a bit of cotton wool in the milk and wipe over the eye use only once and repeat with a fresh tissue. seemingly there is a great antiseptic in cows milk.
  8. that's me and im happy to carry on like that! when i go out i get 30 odd rabbits a time and im happy as larry about it. i may be stuck in the 'old ways' but that's the way i go. every ferret is accounted for at the end of the day and my rabbits are enough to keep me going .
  9. better start saving for a jcb then as where i ferret is all granite and slate pmsl
  10. 1 could go out and buy half a dozen tomorrow but why the hell should i when i have said before.........alot of land up here states by the landowners NO DIGGING!!!!!!!!!!! so i could find the ferret but i cant bloody dig to get the bugger out that is why patience and old school methods r more effective here and i will under no circumstances go poaching as i work with the countryside marquee( who demonstrate old school country ways) and would not set a bad example. get off my case vin!
  11. as you are well aware that they has been an outbreak of canine distemper round the area i have phoned round local vets and have found interesting info about the cd jab. alot of people with one or two ferrets may be put off when thinking about the jab at the price. if you ask about 1 ferret you will be quoted around the £30 mark which seems steep what i realized today is the more ferrets the cheaper it is. 1 ferret was coming in at £30.70, three ferrets came in at £32.75 and four ferrets at £35.50 so if you want them done and know a mate who wants them done to a 'bulk' order at the vets is
  12. before disco boxes there was good old fashioned ferreting 1 human,1 dog, a few ferrets and a bag of nets and a lot of patience. have seriously thought about a finder this year but i have gone without for 40 years, never lost a ferret and am perfectly happy with the way i do it. more interested in spending my cash vaccinating my ferrets against a n outbreak of distemper in my local area and making sure there ok . i can get alot of flasks of coffee for £160 +. what put me off the ferret finder is all the reports of it failing in the field. batteries failing, ferrets slipping collars, getting c
  13. it takes as long as it takes they all moult mine has hardly any fur on its tail but it always grows back by september ish
  14. be careful walking a ferret round the durham area at the moment as there seems to be pockets of canine distemper in our area. of course this does not apply of you have your ferret vaccinated which can set you back anything up to £30 but that is the owners choice. we have ferrets in and out all the time so closer to the time give me a yell and ill see if i can sort you out with some free of charge. land round durham is very hard to get permission where abouts r u? running jills in season is not advised and you would need the hob to have a vasectomy which would set you back £70 and please dont
  15. this guy on hunting life is making boxes - he has just been and dropped of a selection of boxes and all i can say is that if anyone orders them you will not be disappointed. top quality materials are used and clips on the boxes are sturdy and hard wearing. he was very accommodating when i asked for a few nips and tweaks that i wanted to my own box and it came just as i had imagined it. the boxes themselves are light but very sturdy and the bow backs fit exactly where they should. would reccomend him a million times over
  16. hopefully it wont be mate but hats off to you for having it checked
  17. belly pork is cool for chucking the weight on ferrets when she picks up
