back to the rabbit run today and it was a wierd un!. got there with a blanket of snow on the ground and the jack russell was off in every direction chasing bunnies.heard a yelp from her so raced up to find her sitting there not in pain or in danger so come to the conclusion she must have got a nettle up her a*s. rabbit warrens covered and a bombardment began. had bother with the hob had to get to the rabbits before him as he was trying to pull them back down the sets nets and all.then the terrier decided to chase a rabbit over a small pond and the ice broke.thank god she took to water like a

great day yesterday, the shooting season has finished so we were invited by the keeper over the hill to help him in his woods. went into the clearing and there were bunnies everywhere. the jack russell didnt know where to run first!. expected a pretty lackluster day as alot of people on here were saying that the rabbits were in young but a decent haul of 35 rabbits and only one was showing the signs of a pregnancy. mabey the cold weather will keep them off for a while. got go back tomorrow and do it all again well pleased butcher this morning when i rocked up. off to make more poke nets as

what's your fav colour of purse nets ?
AndyKelly replied to lampingkid's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
all im going to say is colour is down to personal preference - old timers still like traditional colours like reds and greens but the modern brighter colours luminous orange pink and dayglow yellow do seem to work better.as the rabbit only sees in monochrome ( black and white) the brighter and lighter the net the less chance there is of the rabbit seeing it and rearing up as it comes up the burrow. think that red, terracotta and dark green will look black over the hole whereas the light yellows etc will show as a very light grey. i was old school and only used dark colours but i did try the mo -

went to my usual haunt yesterday and at the request of the farmer attempted to get some rabbits out of the old dry stone walls. found it very hard work for me as there was still alot of cover around the walls and felt in a way it was harder work for the ferrets. seems that they have alot more work to do around areas like this that the normal flat tidy burry. the actual rabbits that i did managed to flush out were not older experienced rabbits but alot of this seasons younger ones.was pleased that i took the jack russell as she was very good at marking in situations like this and refused to mov

2 jills 18 months to two years old rescued and brought back to weight in september 1 sandy black eyes and small other albino well handled and free to loving home pm me if interested -
if ferret is nipping try only handling her after she has been fed as they have a full tummy and cant be bothered to nip. if it persists ive rubbed a little marg or butter over my knucles and then they get the tendancy to lick rather than nip.

q=aye 20 minutes for a net and i let them go for £2.50 its a hobby not a business and i just get the joy of knowing alot of people are getting good nets that dont drop to bits as the ones i bought when i were young were rubbish you will never make a living from rabbit nets it barley covers the cost of materials
