Reverce Breed Collie Greyhounds
Sirius replied to lurcher man george's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
My though is ARE they fast enough for my type of ground? Look great ferreting on the fells, but can they catch as well on short grass and drill? -
No but he is a old friend we both know, I believe ??
-
So if I currently use a tracer 140, what's the equivalent you do d Lloyd ?
-
Without turning the thread into a digging discussion. In my experience, having a 'ferret that stays till dug too' is something you only hear from people who ferret shallow warrens. And as a lot of the dales and such places are shallow in general a lot of ferreters like there ferrets to stick. To me an hour lost digging is a hour lost bolting. I will dig if I can get to it in 15-30mins, and do regularly. But if the ferret pops up it's often a relief on a deep place.

You should see his daughter, like a bag of hammers lolClearly takes after her mother ...... She looks well socks, she won't be any slouch. Just what we need down here.

No, but I don't like mentioning injurys. He's fast but not reckless.

I agree TOMO I also feel buying from Hancock is matter for your own conscience, I know it wouldnt sit well with mine.

Next time I get a 12ft layup I must ring you up lol Much over 4ft is a pain in arse, rather be on next warren catching rabbits ??
-
I take it you don't have 16ft + sandy warrens. If they show after 20mins I am happy, cos i ain't digging for a fecking rabbit at that depth.OK tiger puff your chest back in it was a geninue questionlol I know it was, that was a genuine answer lol no offence

I arranged a outing out today on the rolling hills. A nice casual walkout with Jekyll and of course the ferreting kit and my dog who's in his third season. I have been given a few ferrets back from my old lines which I thought I had lost so I was keen to see how they worked. We dropped on a few good warrens which we netted up and all produced a good amount of rabbits to be caught in the nets and a few slippers which were mopped up by the dog in good style. As the day progressed we used less and less nets and gave the dog a good workout, and he didn't disappoint with some spectacular ca

The tang is burnt into the handle and gluedThe sheepsfoot is nice, elm handle too. A very useful shape. That's awesome. Thanks for the reply. Did you pre-drill the handle at all? And did you use a primitive type glue or standard epoxy resin? Recently finished my first sheepsfoot file knife and really appreciate the shape of it, safe and useful Yes pre drilled then burnt on, used epoxy mixed with wood ash. You can use primitively glues but they take longer to cure. Everything else apart from epoxy was pretty much the old way of making knives. -
They look tidy Keegan and I thought your bitch was a lesbian lol Good luck with them, a nice size litter as others have said

Electric is ok at best it's just temporary. Build a strong fence line and barb the bottom. But be aware pigs will reduce the ground level a lot so get the fence as low as you can.
-
Yes possibly, but I would prefer a Lurcher. I don't want to increase size and I don't know what a grey would offer better than a lurcher
-
C green, thanks but I know that only to well. I am going to put him at open stud or/and a advert I'm edrd. Sadly there is only a handful of related bitchs left around who are knocking on a bit now. He's hunted pretty much everything works to gun, works cover and is very hardy. Poor feckers lacking teeth and youth but is still handy. Found a bitch last year but she was not in season when brought to the dog. What will be will be.

Stock fence and then put barb wire 3-4 inches off the round around the bottom. Make sure your gates are either hung so they can't be lifted.

I wish I had a line but I have a excellent Lurcher x Lurcher who's 10 years old now. Last of the line which goes back quite a few decades. I hope I find him a nice suitable bitch as he's the real deal as far as a all round Lurcher goes.

Had a few days on a course at a friends forge. Started with a small piece of steel bar and a block of wood each and we made these. No cutout steel here just forged using charcoal and elbow grease the traditional way.
