  2. No young uns for me this season although my mate has a couple that need starting, the rough fell in your pics, what size is it ? was talking to a guy from cork, that said you like a bigger dog than most, just curios, the guys name was noel. i like a big dog myself All the best for the season.
  3. if a terrier doesnt work below ground and stay untill dug its NOT a working terrier, lurchers ,hounds , springers etc hunt above ground and thats their job so they can be regarded as working dogs but a terriers job is below ground. that is WORK for a terrier , anything above ground for a terrier is sport, simple as that. if a terrier isnt killing for food its sport!!! digging is SPORT it isnt even an effective means of pest control!!! digging is the easiest form of terrier work the only talent is from the dog....iv never had a problem shooting a problem fox with a rifle.... Dig
  4. Hunting was a bit slow yesterday, although one was accounted for by one of the guns, first fox was flushed right under the huntsmans feet, tight in a bramble patch, big dog fox that led the hounds a merry dance, then crossed a river in full flood, and back up the hill into a place where we dont have permission, was a cracking hunt though alot of people seem to slate blackntan on here i for one wont as this guy has done alot for our gun pack, and sourced alot of materials for our new hunt kennels( free of charge) he is an assett to our hunt !!!!!
  5. I picked a pup up from Mars last night, took the grizzle dog pup, settled in straight away, an hour of whining then nothing pups a credit to him, the dam very laid back and very biddable. Wish we could have stayed longer for a brew and chat mars, but had to shoot off to pick my mates lad up from 5 a side at 10pm. will keep you posted on his progress Thanks Mars.
  6. blackntan has a pic i gave him a month or so ago, 1910 ish english bull from liverpool area, looks a proper dog, i will get him to shove it on.
  7. EDRD is sound as it is, if it went 2 days the atmosphere would go ! Dont try and fix it if its not broken. CMW, are in it for money, advertising, not for the sport or love of the working terrier
  8. If you think the dog is ready for it, let it go.
  9. I think everyone has pretty much summed it up for you fella, try for the ratting first, get around the bale stacks, once the farmer starts to get to know you and trust you, he tells his mate in the pub and so forth. you never know whats lurking in the bale stacks do you have a working terrier club near you ? join it, you may get asked out or someone may take you under there wing
  10. why not ring the guy and go see for yourself, he is a mixer, the dog is 100% on fox :-)
  11. i dont know if they are the same as cmw as i dont buy the rag !
  12. i have seen tyson dug too on our hunt and its a good fox dog !
  13. No prob fella, i only replied in jest
  14. I have never seen any of his dogs work, but know lads that have and they get the job done . i think his bro in law keeps the lakies now, a couple of blacks and a border. will see him sunday.
  15. I know the guy quite well, had a few dogs pinched a few months back, sticker if you go the midland and as him about his show stuff he is a decent bloke and is still working some terriers.
  16. Nice size, not really into the rabbits myself unless there are a few peas and carrots around it met aguy from ireland a month or so ago at a local show, cant remember his name now, but he ran the terriers and lurcher show at cork, big ugly sod, he showed me some pics of his young wheaten x very similar in build. Hope it goes well for your mate.
  17. Nice looking lurcher there fella, i have always fancied that x myself but have never been able to find anyone with decent stuff, viewed 2 dogs that supposedly takes all, but i was less than impressed with both even when they were doubled up ! what size is it EAMON ?
  18. Our hunt did a spot of ratting at the start of the year not sure on dates ect, 430 rats were taken in 3 hours around 15 terriers and 3-4 lurchers and a load of guys with big sticks doing funny dances it was at a waste transfer station in north wales, the boss was on the loading shovell transfering waste on to trailers ready for land fill. was a cracking few hours and even the police sent a helicopter, and a few cars and vans to watch There had been a report of dog fighting ! only one rat got away will get some pics up after i have resized them.
  19. The dog makes me smile everytime i dig him, and you would be surprised where he can get Entered class ! entered to what ? rat, rabbit, mole, kennel !
  20. Not all at EDRD show were workers, but alot better percentage than most shows ! the lakie that won the main show (not the edrd champ) hasnt seen a tap of work, allegedly ! But most shows are put on to make money for clubs and hunts and whithout the show stuff entering how much money would they make ?! i agree that a working terrier and lurcher show should be for workers, but when a small hunt puts on a show its for the money to support there pack, catch 22 ! B&T our hunt is out this sat on a place where you can try them dogs of yours, and if the weather stays as crappy as it is now it
  21. if we are talking terriers i would opt for a well bred terrier , the reason being .....it is almost impossible to train a terrier to go to ground , find , stay or hold ....any piece of cr*p can go to ground and bay on the other hand if we are talking lurchers , i have seen poorly bred dogs catch and retrieve and i have well bred dogs in my kennels ....as you allready now because you've seen them work have you sold all the doodle pups ??? so what your saying there is that all baying dogs are crap and none are well bred ? yet they still have to find there quarry, and they still
