  1. Was the Wheaten used in the mating pure? I have worked this cross before and they have a good nose, not needed when your lamping anyway as they tore down the beam, great lamping dogs!!!! If anything they can be to headstrong. I believe so. I got the dog at over 12 months old and i think he had been encouraged to hunt with his nose so when i tried him on the lamp he ran the rabbit then went nose down like a bloodhound when he lost it. Its a habit i have not been able to stop so i dont use him for lamping.
  2. I have got a first cross wheaton greyhound. He is the most loyal dog iv ever had, Hopeless for lamping due to his nose but good for other stuff. Very quiet with other dogs infact he all most seems scared but as they say its quiet ones you have to watch.... Good dog suits me well. Id like to put him over a greyhound bitch one day.
  3. The reason this post came about is because i have a mate who is french (I know, I know. leave it he's alright really) His family used to be big into terrier work back home and they used what he calls fox terriers the Wire haired type. He would like to get a fox terrier here and believes it would hunt like a good un. I said they are show dogs and he would be better off with a Russell. Then we got to wondering how Russells came to be. So there you go thanks for the info
  4. As per title what is a russell? Are they a distinct breed or where they originally another breed thats been changed so much they are not what they originally where? Im sure i once read the original Russells where fox terriers? What happened there then? Also while we are on the subject whats a Parsons type russell? I hope someone can clarfy things.

  18. Evening, Sorry if this as been covered before but.... Im thinking about getting a whippet, Does anyone work whippets on here? What are your thoughts on whippets in general Has anyone got a litter planned for this year? or can anyone recommend a good line of working whippets to look into? Iv always wanted to try a whippet an now seems like a good time. Cheers Dave
  19. I personally dont think that would help this dog, It needs to see squatters in the beam a flash of a bolting rabbit would dishearten it.
  20. Where you from mate?? Swap the harness for a lamp and get her tried.
