  1. Stumbled on this photo of what looks a Wheatonx maybe,I know nothing of the dog or photo just thought it was outstanding, anyone else seen it before, found it amongst some Staffy pics.Atb
  2. Cheers RickshawS ,I’ll look into those ? down the hole with Eli blood, heard there’s a difference between U.S Eli blood and Cardenas Eli blood, apart from a few hundred miles,no idea what that is yet ? atb
  3. Petite de bleak de gasgoine x Beauce de Berger ?
  4. I think Waz’s time spent working dogs far out ways time spent on computer,so are you hunting boar out in France Waz?This boy would probably like a run at the boar but he’s my ex’s pet/guard,Russian Terrier x Ambull atb
  5. Bird in that picture is 1/5th actual size, like getting a sofa from Argos...only your nine year old can fit on it ,work for the dog though I guess?
  6. Yeah definitely, they were certainly more patient, everything has to be point and shoot now,the old timers didn’t even have t.v interfering with there time.
  7. It is one of those rabbit holes that you can get deep into, seen some posts online from people with serious studies on this breed, rich history this breed,I heard that about William Lightners grandad having the dogs we recognise still today before the American Civil war,I’ve read a lot and forgotten half of it but I believe it was the Lightners that started the red nose strain, there was also something about his original dogs being pure white!Banging in about the small dogs Jack Burke’s strain that features heavily in the Colbys foundation dogs had a 14lb dog!!Maurice Carver said a bulldog is not
  8. Hello Greb, where in your mind are the bulldogs coming from, evolutionary wise, from old mollossar types?I haven’t gone that far back yet?And then I would probably ask you what Terriers do you believe are going in to this mix,and where they from?I like things neat and tidy mate so I’m happy to believe Gamebred Bulldogs(Apbt) the original bulldog, are down from athletic mollosar type dogs? atb J
  9. I think when you look at these old images it’s easy to see why some say the Apbt is the original Bulldog and why some still refer to it as the Bulldog. All the dogs have a descent bit of muzzle, the stuff with with the nose pushed back was the beginning of the show stuff that goes all the way to the the modern British bulldog. Also as we all know most breeds who’s muzzle has been dramatically shortened can’t get round the block let alone have the wind to bring a bull down,so I go with modern gamebred types being the original bulldog, the squashed muzzle bulldog being a show offshoot. atb J
  10. From what I’ve read/heard in interviews with others interested in there history there has always been a wide size scale.Dogs prior to bullbaiting ban in 1835 were big,to do the job, after the ban people with the breed went into dogfighting and needed to be off the radar so it was easier to keep smaller dogs as the basements became the new arenas.Irish and English staffs that went over, don’t know the dates, late 1800,s not sure?around then, also brought the size down a little stateside, those that remained in Ireland/England remained Staffordshire’s.A 1927 copy of Pit News advertises dogs for sale
  11. From what I’ve read looking in as a novice on the Apbt, the Colby family were under tight scrutiny over, regular inspections etc and therefore had to have a tidy yard, nothing scarred up,equally to underline what Boss-Hog just said,it’s said that back to early 90’s a pure Colby was 3x the price of tested lines,so folks looking for sporting stuff just didn’t need to go there.
  12. Hello Jetro, went down the rabbit hole looking at smaller gamebred types, didn’t know myself they came so small, some of them.Interesting also that although not documented, those that know suggest Boston Terrier history is back to small game bred bulldogs, and Gr Ch Mammy there is not far off what earlier Boston’s looked like! The Gamedog site has loads of history about these dogs, plenty on British dogs as well. atb J
  13. Francie, if you like a good write up on game bred types you should have a look at Richard Strattons website,he has lived and breathed these dogs for decades, you may already know of his books.Take heed,he rightly said these dogs deserve ONLY the very best people,it’s why I don’t own one lol.Photo of him with a modern day legend Gr Ch El Titeire, great write up of him meeting this dog. atb J
  14. Like reading the history of these dogs, this bitch was just 21 lb!!!There were a lot of game bred bulldogs that were very small.Gr Ch Mammy atb J
  15. Would love to help mate as I’m in Essex but let me tell you getting housing down this way is a nightmare, don’t know anyone this way who has been housed that didn’t play the game of landlords evicting us etc etc.I paid rent on a council house with Basildon for seven years and when me and the ex split the Council said eight years minimum to find myself in a shit flat in shitsville street!Despite my whining about being close to my daughter.I rent privately now and the private rent in Essex is through the roof but at least we get to choose where we are.As regards Colchester,I know it’s a little ch
  16. Think you can still get that ortovox, but cash wise there’s not a lot of difference with bellman collar and a box, they used to be a lot cheaper!
  17. Strong stuffs Ortovox collar, quality made like the rest of his gear, bit of a lump the receiver with them but fits well with his collars. atb J
  18. Downsouth-thanks for the reply, certainly a powerful mix and adds the functionality that Mastiff types had in their original form.Going back 10 years now a friend said he had seen some U.S mercenaries out in one of their conflict zones,Middle East somewhere with what sounded very much like a bandog type,I didn’t know they were used by special forces etc. Bird-Appreciate the replies also. You have to be a light sleeper to keep a bat next to the bed,I’m not,and would probably wake up with someone holding my bat !lol. The dogs sound the alarm like you say,and that’s all we need really unles
  19. I follow a few threads on here so firstly I hope your lad in family is better than he was,and wish him a full recovery.Stressfull times mate to say the least.I have been asked about his chain weight before and can’t remember to be honest,I think he was 45-48,height,I’d say between 18 and 20 he certainly never strikes you as being tall, see all sorts over the years even had what was touted as Irish staff back in the day myself, yep that was me lol but he is awesome and somehow subtle about it,can’t keep my eyes off him when he’s about!Like the smoothest rock to touch and like I say he’s not a you
  20. What’s in a traditionally bred bandog Downsouth? Atb J
  21. Don’t know how to put your comments up Downsouth but I hear you!Agree as well ,certainly wondered how there getting on.The lad with the bulldog has never sold a pup,all placed and has coughed up a lot of money to get some pups in the right place so he has access further down the line. Atb J
  22. I like most dogs and when I first saw his Presas I thought I want one, maybe three lol. After being on his property for a while and his father in law telling me he can’t visit his daughter unless the owners there I thought maybe not.Level of management is beyond me and to be successful as he seemed to be was a level of responsibility I haven’t seen with any other breed.Beautiful dogs and better than anything I have seen advertised, his misses seemed secure in having them and they had plenty of space that was fenced in obviously. One was dark brindle the other two that sandy brindle, they made an im
  23. I’m coming from a narrow field, the best bulldog I’ve laid eyes on and the only Presas I have seen in the flesh, but the difference is chalk and cheese and the bulldogs athleticism...special.Dog porn ,simple. Atb J
  24. No...lol,but the bitch he recently attempted to put him over is the granddaughter of a very famous Irish dog.Now it really is getting cloak and dagger!!My main reason for sharing his photo was because he’s a great guard,I have met a bloke this way who has three Presas ,two imported from Spain, now they are indeed great guards but what a handful to manage, this boy is spot on and still remains very social ,the presas were not at all social, even the father in law is unwelcome unless the son is there to manage them. All about breeding I guess once again. Atb J
