  1. If you read between the lines, I was debating whether or not the bending of the rules would be practical. When passing the distant rfd do you buy 100 or 500 each time? The greyness or ambiguity of some areas of firearms law sometimes force many of us to think this way and I can't help thinking sometimes it's the way the law likes it. Rather than a strict NO in areas where common sense should prevail, the police just don't enforce so rigorously hence my question about who checks ammo.
  2. I used to love the darkroom side of things. The cost of the chemicals etc for the hobbyist meant you were restricted to 16x20 trays for developing but I used to turn the enlarger sideways and stick two 16x20 on the wall with an overlay. Once developed I would use a stanley knife to do a random cut and touch up where necessary to produce a 32x20 print. Worked a treat and no-one could tell it was two parts. At the time you could buy photographic linen that you could expose and then fold up to develop in a bucket. This opened up the possibility to make lampshades and all sorts. Never did get to
  3. Sorry Alsone, yours was a reply with some info in it. Did know this. Was being sarcastic at those who hadn't read the bit that said .22lr.
  4. Thanks Andy. My thoughts from the get go. Just weighing up the practicalities of using an hours worth of diesel plus the cost of the ammo when legally I can only hold 600 rounds. My local rfd doesn't like transferring ammo via another rfd but I think they will do it - for a price of course although the guy I spoke to couldn't tell me what that price is. For you other guys: Where exactly does the primer go on a .22lr case?
  5. Are you talking about ammo in the sense of rifle ammo or cartridges generally? Because that certainly isn't the case with shotgun cartridges! Well both really. Tickets for .22LR, FAC air and shotgun. Haven't got shotgun yet but intend to. Working on FAC air. Don't know what to buy that i can afford and be happy with. guess I'll save up the pennies for a Mk2 Rapid. I have a RFD quite near but Winchester won't supply him and the subs he sells sre mainly CCI. So can .22LR ammo be couriered or not? If so what is a typical RFD charge for the service
  6. I feel I should know this but I don't. Recently got my ticket and was wondering how the ammo thing works? My 1417 likes Winchester but the nearest rfd is an hour away. Can ammo be bought through the post? And when ammo is bought who keeps a check on it? Does the rfd send to the police?
  7. It was a hypothetical question Happy new year everyone.
  8. Having listened to all this sage advice I think I'm going to make a leather wrist band to take maybe fifteen or twenty rounds. Worn on the left wrist (if right handed) easy to hold mag in left hand and fill even in the dark.
  9. Forgive me if this is a stupid question but how do peeps carry their ammo when out in the field? The litle bricks must be dead handy when on the range but not so good when fumbling around in the dark in the field. I'm guessing some kind of pouch but some brands have coatings on them which surely will rub off if carried in the loose. I did look up an ammo belt in .22LR but there are not as many as I would have thought. Of course the best way is enough magazines but with Anchutz 5 round @ an eye watering £40 plus the postage I'll stick with the two. Thoughts anyone?
  10. Get down the charity shop and buy an old leather jacket. Cheap as chips these days.
  11. That muzzle velocity was from the tin. All I've got is a Combro4 are they any good with rimfire speeds? I guess I'll soon find out.
  12. Of course Rod. Actually went out to do it yesterday but other stuff got in the way and ended up losing the light and I'm not sure if my sidewinder is playing up or not so want to get it as good as I can before I go again.
  13. I think I just need clarification but I could be wrong. My garden is about 24yds long Win subs @ 1065MV with a BC of 0.138. If I zero at 22yds, is it the same as zeroing at 50yds? According to Chairgun that's the two points of impact unless I've ballsed it up.
  14. Thanks again guys. I now know a bit more about moderators than I did before. The SAK wil be OK while I have a think and a bit more play. After dismantling the SAK I was surprised to feel the impressions of the holes quite deeply in the side wall of the mod and I'm thinking what if those holes were filled with some rolled up steel gauze or similar. Or I might have a play with the Twink and replace the felt with something more substantial. Can't help myself, love a project me. Cedric: I did get a buddy to fire it whilst I listened. That's when I heard the rush of air as it was fired but I gu
  15. Yes Cedric. The guy that sold me the rifle said it loves Winny subs. The winny rfd is miles away. Did get a couple of hundred just to make sure before I committed to em. My local rfd only does CCI so I got a hundred of those also but haven't tried them yet. I may yet re-evaluate the SAK. Having just got into this FAC mallarkey I don't have anything to compare it to but I know that once I get everything as right as I can I'm gonna enjoy it a lot.
  16. Thanks for the replies guys. Have had em both apart. SAK is solid and proofed. Was slightly gritty so ran it under the tap. Twink has fiber in it and isn't proofed. What is considered quieter than the SAK for a reasonable budget?
  17. Hi guys. Can someone tell me the difference between FAC moderators and airgun moderators? Have recently bought a .22LR 1417 and it has a SAK .17hmr moderator on it. Seller says it's fine. Tried it for the first time yesterday and it wasn't that quiet. Seems like there's a rush of air when it's fired. Will test with the mod on/off with my Combro4 but don't know how good they are withh .22lr. Spose it will be ok for a comparison check. If it's not a good idea to use a .17hmr, can the internals of the SAK be changed to .22? I have a Twink .22 on one of my airguns. Could I use that on
  18. Don't know if you mean a brute or just a mincer. I've just bought one of these. 2000watts. £32 delivered. Don't suppose it will do bones and I'm not about to bung some in it to find out http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281442227815?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D281442227815%26_rdc%3D1
  19. Got the yes yesterday from FEO so actively looking now. .22lr by the way. Sorted now thanks.
  20. What a strange reply! I'm perfectly calm and the reason for the last minute, if you'd care to read the second line is because the one i was building wasn't finished and I had four days before the visit. None of this is relevant. The post was a heads up about a service that I paid good money for and didn't receive. What part of that makes it my fault?? As for your philosphy - keep it to yourself. It's got no place on this post.
  21. Just a rant about the above. FEO appointment was for 9.00am Thursday. Was building a gun cabinet but decided not to risk it and bought one from GDK on fleabay on Monday night. I left a message with the order saying it was imperative I have it by Wednesday. Didn't pay for it then, deciding to call to make sure of the express delivery first thing Tuesday morning. Spoke to the seller/owner on Tuesday morning repeating that it had to be here for Wednesday. "No problem" says he. "If you pay for express it will be there before 12 midday on Wednesday.". He charged me £17 for express delivery instead
  22. Interesting site but still calls for some prior knowledge. Looking for something that explains that THIS calibre is purely a measurement whereas THIS calibre is a measurement plus load size or case size if you see what I mean. Because my permissions are quite small (except one which still isn't massive) I've just applied for the .22LR and FAC air. I would like a slot for .17HMR but that can wait. Wanted to be sure to get it first. Will of course mention the 17HMR to the FEO who may or may not tell me to add it on. I'm happy to play the long game and as my permissions get larger I'll hopeful
  23. Having recently applied for my FAC, I'd like to familiarise myself a lot more with the different calibre sizes, loads etc. I know some but always love to learn more. Even the many variants of the lowly .22 have me confused. Is there a web site or a publication that shows/teaches calibres graphically as well as textually (so you can compare them side by side)? I'm surprised that this site and some others that I look at don't have this info as a sticky or if they do I've never come across it. The closest that I've seen to what I'm looking for are the re-loading manuals but I don't know if they
