I'm new at these larger/faster calibers. Where's a good website that explains the sizes and uses? When I first saw a .17 Rem I thought of one of those bug things that have a huge body and a tiny head after they've filled up on blood. Seems to me that a case that size would have enough powder to out perform the other .17s but I guess that's not all there is to it.

Maybe if people knew where you are you would get more guns. the "Southeast" covers a big piece of ground. I would imagine there are lots of people who don't have any perms of their own who would jump at the chance and in your case it wouldn't matter if they were beginners because the noise would keep em moving toward the more experienced guns. Just a thought. The bit of the southeast is on the Kent Sussex border mate ..

Thanks Rob and Rimfireboy. Had loads more since. The Annie and the Archer make it so easy. Had a few more last night. They don't come so close now so more longer range shots and I was particularly happy with three around the ninety yard mark. The 1417 is a great little rifle. It's weighed down a bit with the 3-12x50 Sidewinder 30 which is a heavy scope especially with the big wheel on it. If I had to nit pick, the magazine release could be better as could the safety button and there's a clunk when you put the bolt down but at rimfire ranges the bunnies don't hear it. Some do have an eject

Short answer, yes I do. They have better things to do with their time. I had an aquaintence once who also was paranoid about this. When sending block quoted emails he redacted every single occurrence of "dodgy" words like gun, rifle, shooting etc etc. Even when it was me that wrote them in the first place they would come back blacked out. I guess it depends on the kind of world you live in. As far as forums go, I know when searching for something, how much crap and useless one liners I have to wade through to find anything meaningful. If the "suits" are listening for key words how

BASC are constantly telling us not to pander to these area "quirks". Firearms law is difficult enough as it is without encouraging any more differences. As long as you're within the law and anyone tries to take away your FAC for no good reason BASC will sort it. That's what you pay them for.

Another visit. Sixteen more to the 1417 + Archer. Sorry bout the poxy fone pic. I'll take a camera next time. atb Paul

Caliber might help.

Both yourself and the BASC are correct. This is a Kent Firearms Department policy, its a well know policy of theirs, so if you wont to wind them up go ahead! I for one wait until I have received a letter from that `nice, but misinformed` lady you spoke of This is why we need a one for all policy to stop anyone being refused or having a FAC taken away. I know you're reaching for an open ticket David and it seems that each of your posts are made as though the Kent FD is going to read them but in this case it's not policy we're talking about. It's laid down law. By the way. That letter

I found out recently that if the land is cleared for the caliber that you shoot and you have permission, your details have nothing to do with it. Just go and shoot. It sounds in your case like the land hadn't been looked at yet hence the FLO being there so a different scenario. A few weeks ago I got a new perm and the FO told me over the phone it was cleared for .22LR. He also told me to send in a copy of the permission. When I called the FD in Maidstone the woman I spoke to told me I couldn't shoot it til I got a letter back. She even tried to tell me I couldn't shoot 12ftlbs until I got the

I will build something but there are places where only an airgun will be safe enough.
-
I'm even getting whining from the 28ftlb Rapid Charlie. There are so many bunnies that the grass is ultra short and the pellets are literally bouncing off the hard ground and that's at bench level. I've got 2/3 12ftlbs but I'd rather build upward than faff around trying to get closer.
-
Don't think there's a practical answer to this but does anyone know what angle would be a starting point for trying to eliminate ricochets with Win sub HP? Of course the type and hardness of the ground has to be considered but this info would be most useful when designing the height of a high seat. Also, what's the corresponding "bounce" angle? In plain language please.

When I was in New Zealand I had a job painting houses Completely OT but this reminded me of a story; A blonde student type trying to work her way through college answers an advert that said there was some painting that wanted doing. \she knopcked on the door and a guy comes out and says "I'm really snowed under here. I'll have to leave you to it. Here's the paint and brushes. There's a porch round the back that wants painting." A couple of hours later she knocks on the front door again and tells the guy she's all finished. He pays her and thanks her for doing a quick job. As she's walkin

Wouldn't fancy slipping on a ladder.

Thems my thoughts dd. I can do it in sections. There's a small hut that just wants the door putting back on and I can store it there. Should work out well because there are three or four other places where they think they're safe at the moment And yes the lack of safe backstops is what got me thinking up a tree in the first place.
-
My permission is quite flat and there are places that are heaving with bunnies but I can't get them because of houses, richochets etc. My thoughts are leaning toward going up a tree which solve the problem. Any thoughts on how to get this done? Six inch nails in the tree? telescopic ladder?

In my Annie 1417 I find that if i do it fairly vigorously they come out fine but if I try to baby it they lay in the chamber.
-
Thanks again Mister. Will get on to those suppliers. I put through coarse first and then fine when all mixed but next time I think I'll put through coarse twice.

Amazing! How soft are we Southern townies eh? For my four Westies I boil em up and take every little bone out before I give it to them Too frightened of the vet bills.
-
By "plastic" do you mean the membrane around the meat?
-
What's a cur dog? Lurcher?
-
After bringing home too many rabbits I cooked up the front ends for the dogs and ran out of time so I washed all the rest and put them in he fridge in a couple of carrier bags with the view of taking the meat off the bone the next day. Today there's been a distinctive smell and when I got them out of the fridge some of them had turned blue I certainly wouldn't eat it but is it ok to give it to the dogs once boiled up?
-
Thanks guys. I must admit I am enjoying it after my other perms which are either miles away or it takes ages to find oneor two.

I used to make a lot of sausages, and can confirm that the meat needs to be cold during all stages of production. By 'cold', I mean ideally between 1ºC and 5ºC and well mixed after the spices have been added to get the salt/myosin to work properly (about 5 minutes) so you don't end up with a 'grainy/crumbly' end product. I used to put the meat/fat into the freezer to get it firm and cold (not frozen) prior to mincing, and back in after mixing to cool it back down. Always make a small patty to fry off after mixing to see if you have the desirable flavour profile and adjust accordingly. You will
