  1. That's it sow again,do U suffer much with carrot fly? jack, the other year my mates were hammered,we found best way to stop them is to,ridge up like a tater row, obviously when orange of the carrots starts to show, just leaving the green above soil, never had them since,
  2. Hi I earth up / ridge up straight away on the spuds, its nice to have a lot of space, but its hell of a job to keep on top of,the soil is very good due to constant mucking and turning over, and hand weeding it takes about a week to get from one end to the other by hand with fork and bucket,I work together with my mate martin,he's retired so we sort of keep at it all the time, there's 4 allotments there and 3 behind the tunnels,i had 3 he had 4 so we joined forces a few years back, two have my poultry on it, http://i.imgur.com/Ina4b4C.jpg this is an old photo but its behind the tunnels and the g

  8. Hi I'm on the fence with my opinion, the hare is a beautiful creature and I like to see nothing more than a couple of them dancing about on a sunny day in the fields, its a cracking sight, some of my permission owners feel the same, some don't,I prefer not to shoot them at all if possible,I have done in the past and I wasn't that keen on the idea to be fair, back then I didn't have as many permissions as I have now, then it was the owners request,if I wanted to keep the rights I reluctantly had to,a few more permissions later and that decision became mine in a way because there isn't that many ab

  10. Tater spacing is least of my worries, went in the tunnel yesterday found Tom plants knackered, frost has took the lot, never before, always been at this stage in April without trouble, cab, cauli we transplanted were ok,its not too much of a set back, the stall would normally be out end of April early may selling early planting veg also, eggs etc, this year it will be debatable, back to spuds, spacing is upto the setter, some say 10" some 12" even 20",def put main crop that bit further apart,my camment on this was a bit misleading, apologies!!! its this good old un predictable weather, this time last yea
  11. hi Use bamboo for peas, set two weeks apart, and do three settings, fist lot went in the tunnel yesterday as the for spuds, personally 1st and 2nd early at same time, then main crop the following weekend, but if the weather is looking bleak for the following weekend they go in at the same time, done this for 15yrs without problems, its all down to weather and ground conditions, even if they show fast and there is a risk of frosting just get a good ridge built and they will be ok,it won't be the first tine I've had to fleese up late april, early may when the leaves are past the ridge because of a big
  12. Hi A friend at work suffers from this and unfortunately he was refused his on that basis alone, probably not what you want to hear but im just telling you his situation,im not saying this will be the same in your case ,each application has to be assesed individually, personally think its down to how the person reacts when having a seizure,Terry knows when he's going to have one and usually managers to sit down 8/10 times but the other two he just goes down sometimes hard,I feel for the fella and anyone else as it must be terrible,he fully understands and accepted the decision they made,at the
  13. Hi Its a bit cold n wet down my way so its best to hang on a week or two, people panic when it gets to April and they are behind, things will catch up,if you want a head start on the peas try this,we do this every year and when the weather is like this it gives you a extra week or two to play with, start them off in the tunnel or cold frame in 100 cell trays and plant two per cane on a prepared row,its good and produces fantastic crops, done this for years, http://i.imgur.com/z7DJOJV.jpg After growing on in the tunnel leave a day of two to harden off http://i.imgur.com/IJfVf4d.jpg Then plant
  14. It gives that impression midnight,I think it depends on what feeding mode there in,me and a mate shot a rape field the other year and they wouldn't stop dropping in and I mean seriously landing sock in the middle if the pattern 10 ,15 at a time, the shots and dead birds everywhere didn't put them off, even as I was out collecting birds from the field they still were dropping in as if I wasn't there, they were set in feeding and nothing else,we ran out of shells and had to stop but I'm convinced they were on a suicide mission lol, never had that happen since, they are not touching the wheat round he
  15. Hi Depending on the outside diameter of the exhaust pipe on your strimmer assuming its round, mine was 15mm so used a con tight water fitting and 1 foot of copper pipe to extend it, after that engine packed up i made one of them you see on YouTube with the weed wand, oil can etc,it was fantastic honest, till i someone stole it from my shed,
