  1. Patterdale x border/Russell but I think there could be some bull in the breeding way back.
  2. Good days mooching with the bobbery pack. 4 rats got and few slips for the lurchers.
  3. Out today got two rats from 3 marks. All bolted as we dug but one got awsy. Found two dead raptors in same wood, not nice to see and a dead hare just outside the wood.
  4. Imo two types suitable for rock piles, a dog capable of killing it's fox quick or one that can be called out after a time if the fox won't bolt. Personally I'd prefer one that can be called out cos even a killer could end up being stuck in a pile for a long time. Definitely there's a dog for every type of situation. Some land in Ireland is really undiggable so a terrier that can't kill or be called away is no use.
  5. But he does me just fine. He's a rabbit rat dog bit of mooching and odd lamp.
  6. Whippet/bull x collie/hound but I'm not sure of the % in the breeding....was potentially a great dog but s bad leg break in his second full season ment he's never been at his best.
  7. Only farm I have with any numbers on it. Most of the local populations been decimated by RHD. Good lamping is hard to find. We got a good few slips but other nights I've been out locally and got one maybe.
  8. got 3, more got away, few good slips, near misses and couple of "how'd they miss that?"s..... but considering we'd a young inexperienced bitch and a middle aged cripple doing the chasing we was happy enough.
  9. Good days mooching. Got 7. Good scent work from the dog to follow scent and find burrows, good marking. Rats I get are country rats, not easy to find.
  10. Once mature, once a day, at night.
  11. Old skool type aren't like that but are hard to find.
  12. Best I ever had was a full springer, old type, stocky, very strong, broad head and shoulders. Would burst cover after fur or feather, follow a line, run with hounds, mark fox holes, dig rats, would grab and pull at a dig....hard mouth on sharp toothed game but soft when retrieving feather.
  13. I tend to stay out of the fields from mid March til Aug. Road work, beach walks and swims keep mine fit.
  14. I think the truth around the Plummers and Hancocks of the dog world ? is somewhere in the middle. They certainly weren't the Demi Gods some aspire them to be but I don't think they were the rogues and scoundrels others claim they were.
  15. Couple of rats got today. I don't get big numbers cos the rats we get are wild ’country' rats living in woods and ditches in the country side, so not in the numbers you get on say a chicken or pig farm. But they're harder to find and the burrows can be difficult at times to scratch out so takes a good nose and brains.
